Bettany Has Words for Statham After Marvel Diss

Marvel has recently come under attack from none other than the last action hero, Jason Statham. He has spoken out about his disdain for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stating that he has no love for the way that they do movies. Statham is known for high-impact action movies with elaborate fight scenes, using mostly practical effects. Most of his films plant themselves firmly on the ground, unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who is in the process of building worlds and universes that only existed in the dreams of fanboys. Statham has gone as far as to tell a British tabloid that the stunt doubles are doing all the work on Marvel sets, and that the main actors are “just sitting in their trailers”.

Paul Bettany who is J.A.R.V.I.S. and The Vision in Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron was recently on Conan and had a few words for the action guru. Conan O’Brien asked Bettany about Statham’s comments and he said:

“I try and do as many of the stunts as I can, myself. But there are times when it’s too dangerous or it’s too tricky, and even the producer says, ‘This is too dangerous and tricky for you.’ You know, potentially, he should maybe think about investing in like an acting double.

… I’m just saying, you know, I read the contract, they [Marvel] employed me as an actor. There’s obviously stuntmen in the world – you’ve met them, you’ve seen them. They are very good at what they do, so let them, uh, do it. But if there’s a really, really tricky scene with some very tricky dialogue, one might consider bringing in an acting double for Jason Statham.”

This is basically two sides of an argument about two completely different types of action films. I think that each actor would have very different views on each others style of films, if they were to spend a day in each other’s world. There is definitely some mud being thrown around over this. It would not surprise me to see a Statham retort in the next few days.
