Hollywood Reacts to the Death of Music Legend David Bowie

As fans across the globe mourn the death of music icon David Bowie, Hollywood’s biggest stars have taken to social media to pay their respects for one of music’s biggest names.

Legendary British rocker David Bowie passed away early Monday morning at the age of 69 after a hard fought battle with cancer – a diagnosis he received only 18 months ago. Bowie’s passing was first announced on his official Facebook page before later being confirmed by his son, Duncan Jones, via Twitter.

“David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer,” the Facebook post read. “While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”

Bowie’s death comes only days after the release of his 26th studio album, Blackstar, which was released in celebration of his 69th birthday on Friday, January 8 – nearly 50 years after the release of his debut album in 1967.

Across his illustrious career, Bowie helped redefine the world of glam rock thanks in part to his alter ego Ziggy Stardust and hits such as “Space Oddity,” All the Young Dudes,” and “Let’s Dance.” Bowie also enjoyed a career in film which included roles in films such as Jim Henson’s Labyrinth, Nicolas Roeg’s The Man Who Fell to Earth and Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige.
