If These Eyes Could Talk
You may or may not know that the famous OITNB opening credits don’t feature actors. Nope. They feature women that have all served time in prison. Not one of these ladies is an actress. Instead, showrunner Jenji Kohan found real women who were willing to put it all out there in the name of art.
According to an article in the Huffington Post, when shooting the credits sequence, each woman was asked to visualize three different things: a peaceful place, a person who made them laugh, and something that they wanted to forget. The director found that the last question was, “incredibly effective in evoking a wide range of unfortunate memories.”
It may have been an emotional rollercoaster for the women involved in filming, but the final product gave viewers a lifeline to some deep and personal feels.
