Retro Review Friday: Jeepers Creepers

We’re caught up in the Halloween spirit here at Flicksided! So let’s take a look back at one of the first movies to ever give us nightmares as kids: Jeepers Creepers.

Jeepers Creepers was released in theaters back in 2001. Despite not being welcomed with positive feedback from critics, it became very popular among the teens and young adults. Even kids who, like myself, were probably too young to be watching this R-rated horror. But it was all in good Halloween fun!

Along with The Blair Witch Project, the unsettling Jeepers Creepers is one of the first movie to ever give me nightmares. Every other Halloween, I re-watch this movie and the scares are almost the same and certainly better than several horror flicks made today.

Check out the trailer below:

Jeepers Creepers follows a brother and sister duo portrayed by Justin Long and Gina Philips. The two are driving home for spring break when they spot a creature throwing something wrapped in a sheet down a huge drain pipe.

Thirsty for adventure, Darry (Long) decides to investigate what the man (The Creeper, portrayed by Jonathan Breck) disposed of.

Unfortunately, they discover more than they wish they had. The man turns out to be a hungry flesh-eating creature.

The film isn’t one of the most intelligent movies in its genre, but it definitely works and does its job well. It creates tension and uneasiness in the audience as Trish (Gina Philips) and Darry find themselves lost in the middle of nowhere. Soon enough, that uneasiness develops into fear as Trish and Darry fight to survive. Not to mention, The Creeper is one scary (but sorta silly) looking beast.

If you’re searching for a good horror to watch this Halloween, look no further than Jeepers Creepers!
