Winifred “Fred” Burkle – Angel

Last Words: “I’m not scared. I’m not scared. I’m not scared. Please, Wesley, why can’t I stay?”

How She Died: Her soul was consumed by an ancient demon.

Why Her Last Words Were So Great: Fred’s death scene was heartbreaking as he lay in Wesley’s arms. As Illyria consumed her soul like a parasite, Fred fought the best she could, but it would never be enough.

Fred spent years leading up to her joining Angel Investigations scared of most things – except Angel. She was a human slave in a demon dimension Pylea, and it took a toll on her sanity. The Angel crew saved her life and her mind, so when she was on death’s doorstep Fred stated she wasn’t scared. But she definitely didn’t want to die.

Her last line was a gut punch to all who loved Fred, especially Wesley. He cared for her from just about the first time he saw her. Unfortunately, when the two finally got together, her demise was not far off.

We all wondered why Fred couldn’t stay. Illyria just wasn’t the same. Fred was loved and beloved and Angel wasn’t the same without her.
