Big Pussy Bonpensiero – The Sopranos

Last Words: “Jesus Christ, I got to sit down. I feel like I can’t stand. Is that okay, Tony? That I sit?”

How He Died: Shot to death execution-style by Tony Soprano, Paulie Gualtieri, and Silvio Dante

Why His Last Words Were So Great: “Never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut.” Those were the immortal lines from the mafia classic film Goodfellas. Unfortunately for long-time soldier of the Soprano crew, “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero (Vincent Pastore) became an FBI informant after getting caught dealing heroin. In order to save face and his family’s future, he started squealing. That’s practically a death sentence in the mafia world if word got out. From the second season finale, “Funhouse,” the death of Bonpensiero remains one of the series’ most memorable moments.

Bonpensiero did his best trying to give minimal information to the Feds while protecting his friends. But when Bonpensiero started acting out-of-character, Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) grew suspicious so he cornered him out on open waters. Already accepting his fate, Bonpensiero requests not to be shot in the face. As the inevitable is coming, Bonpensiero finally asks if it’s okay to sit down in his final moment on Earth. An enraged Tony and crew can’t wait no more and ends Bonpensiero’s life, a moment which would bring guilt to Tony for the remainder of the series.
