‘Riverdale’: New CW Drama Looks Dark, Gritty and Awesome!

The CW is giving these classic Archie comic characters a dark, new edge. The trailer shows just how twisted ‘Riverdale’ will be and we can’t wait!

The CW has always had a reputation for casting their shows with super hot, young actors but the network is so much more than just a slew of pretty faces. The CW has a knack for giving it’s shows a dark side and pushing boundaries and it seems Riverdale is no exception. Based on the old school comic, Riverdale centers on the characters Archie, Betty, Jughead and Veronica.

The cast includes Luke Perry (90210) as Archie’s father, Cole Sprouse (The Suite Life of Zach and Cody) as Jughead Jones, and fresh faces Lili Reinhart as Betty, K.J. Apa as Archie and Camila Mendes as Veronica. Bonus, Josie (Ashleigh Murray) of the fictional band, Josie and the Pussycats appears too! The music and lighting in the trailer is super eerie, in a great way. The show is from Greg Berlanti (Supergirl, The Flash) which gives us even more hope for what’s to come from Riverdale!

Check out the trailer and see for yourself:

In the trailer, Riverdale is a small, perfect town full of good people. When a dead body is discovered, the facade of perfection falls, exposing the dark truth about Riverdale and it’s residents. The vibe of the show is so different from the spunky comic on which it is based. The trailer shows early signs of a love triangle between Veronica, Archie and Betty but let’s hope that it’s not a girl vs. girl kind of show because we are all about sisterhood. We can only wait and see how that plays out!

Riverdale definitely reminds us of Gossip Girl, a past CW show, with it’s super sexy vibes and teen angst. Moody teens and intrigue always make for a good combo. Even though this Archie tale has gotten a major update, there are still subtle hints at it’s comic roots, like Jughead’s hat and the malt shop that they are hanging out in. This clever mix of old and new make us think that Riverdale will be the show everyone is talking about in 2017.

Riverdale hits our screens Thursday, January 26, 2017.
