We ship it! Do you? rnShipping is not a new TV concept. Since the beginning of your modern day comedy or drama there has been emotional investment in characters, especially the two we most want to see together.rnrn[recentposts align="right" thiscategory="no"/]rnrnThere are all kinds of ships! And even the most casual TV watcher has at least one. There are of course your top-of-the-top ships, aka: One True Pairing (OTP). And despite the word one in there, most fans have an OTP for each show. It's inevitable that with a successful TV show that there will be at least two characters who build an unmistakable bond!rnrnThus we're lead on a wild "will-they-or-won't-they" ride. The art of something like a slow-burn is so nuanced because a show knows that when a ship is really popular, the sexual tension and debate end the moment things get real (aka: "go canon"). And when a couple does go canon, you can bet there's still another ship waiting in the wings to keep the tension alive on the series.rnrnSome shows even go so far as to save the super good stuff the show's end just to drag it out. A show like Agents of Shield established that Fitz and Simmons were destined to be together, but also doomed any and all attempts for a relationship for several seasons, finally dragging it out to the point that fans wondered what it would take to see those two finally happy.rnrn Grey's Anatomy thrived on a "will-they-won't-they" ship for years! And, spoiler alert (just kidding doesn't everyone know this by now?), even though Meredith and Derek did eventually get together, his death opened new doors for the series. New ships are sailing as there's now been multiple opportunities to see Meredith back out there dating.rnrnMost ships form out of a bond in shared circumstances. The Walking Dead has its fair share of both canon and non-canon ships (as well as its fair share of "shipwars"). In most television series (especially sitcoms), new couples emerge because they initially didn’t get along. It lends a whole heap of credence to the notion of opposites attract. And we have missed them terribly! rn rn rn Why We Ship It: Nick and Jess are not only super cute together, but they are hilarious. They make each other better with their personalities, goals, and wishes for one another. Jess pushes Nick to be the best he can be, a push he very often needs. All while Nick helps Jess not take everything too seriously. We hoped the two would get together, it's all we did for the first couple of seasons! And once they did, it was amazing. Unfortunately, Nick and Jess called it quits, saying they were better as friends. But are they? Brienne and Tormund have only had two brief – yet hilarious – scenes together. Shortly after the two met, Brienne set off south to Riverrun, and Tormund accompanied Jon Snow to retake Winterfell. Brienne and Tormund are both misunderstood giants who know what it’s like to be an outcast in society. They’re formidable in battle and would definitely be able to regale one another with endless tales of carnage and heroism. Also, the way that Tormund looked at Brienne was the look that launched a thousand memes. Mer (Ellen Pompeo) and Riggs (Martin Henderson) slept together unexpectedly toward the end of last season. But Mer has been trying to put a damper on the whole thing since.rnrn Why We Ship It : Doesn't quite flow off the tongue as well as Mer/Der did but since Derek's death and the time jump, it has absolutely made sense to want to see Meredith date again. There was some real potential with an army doctor that lasted a few episodes but Grey ultimately decided she wasn't quite ready for something so serious. Of course based on the reaction to Riggs' intro to series , many immediately saw him for he was - a McDreamy replacement. Luke and Jessica hit it off straight away when the two meet in Marvel's Jessica Jones . Even though Luke demonstrated and often showed that he cared about his relationship with Jessica, fans could tell that she was always a little more into the relationship than Luke-- as tough as she pretended to be! It wasn't long before we learned the reason why.

In Luke Cage, Luke and Misty Knight have a one-night-stand, which okay whatever, but he later has something a lot more serious with Claire (who we met in Daredevil ). This relationship threw fans off.

rnrn rn Why We Ship It: Luke and Jessica are meant to be! Not only are they together in the comics , but we love their on-screen chemistry and how well they go together. There are still more seasons to go, not to mention, the upcoming mega-crossover The Defenders, so a lot can happen! Pretty sure there's no ship name rn rn Has it Gone Canon: For the most part, yeah. Season one spent a lot of time teasing these two. It culminated in a reveal that Oliver (Conrad Ricamora ) tested HIV positive - a result that seemed like would possibly end their relationship. Except instead in season two they moved in together only to breakup in season three. Connor (Jack Falahee) tries to repair the relationship but Oliver turns him down. rn rn rn Why We Ship It: Considering their relationship was essentially based off a one-night-stand. These two couldn't deny their chemistry and the attraction just kept growing. TV has a serious problem when it comes some gay couples. The relationships are often not given the respect they deserve and are instead fetishized for those who want just want to see two men bang. HTGAWM was progressive in this regard and really made something out of the relationship. There was some controversy regarding the HIV plot line .

They don't have a ship name. You're just either Team Charles or Team Josh. rn rn Has it Gone Canon: No. They definitely have feelings for each other, which culminated in Charles (Peter Hermann) kissing Liza (Sutton Foster) in the season two finale. Things heated up a bit in season three where on a work trip in the Hamptons Charles tells Liza how he feels. The wrench in the whole machine is Liza's on-again-off-again much younger boyfriend Josh (Nico Tortorella). rn rn rn Why We Ship It: Charles and Liza have made the most sense for a long time now. Even though Josh has been willing to put in the work in the Liza/Josh relationship, he hasn't always been understanding. He's also intimated that he wants things that Liza doesn't - like children. And considering their age difference it just doesn't seem likely there's any real future there. Sure Liza herself has a lot of growing up to do but considering her own expectations for her life, Charles is perfect. He has two daughters of his own that Liza really gets on well with and he's drawn to her intelligence and experience in a way he can't quite explain.

And while I imagine Charles would be as upset as anyone else has been to discover the truth that feeling would also be followed by relief. I think Charles would rather find himself with someone closer to his age and his attraction to Liza has never seemed to rest on hers. They're definitely endgame!

Pretty sure there's no formal ship name but there should be! rn rn Has it Gone Canon: No. Daredevil season one flirted with the idea quite a bit and set our hearts on fire. But Claire (Rosario Dawson) ultimately decided she couldn't deal with Matt's (Charlie Cox) superhero alter-ego. Her inclusion in season two didn't see any progression on that front but the two definitely deeply care for each other. Claire definitely has a type. rn rnrn[nextpost teaser="‘Daredevil’ 7 Scenes That Make Us Worship Elektra" url="https://hiddenremote.com/2016/03/21/daredevil-7-scenes-make-us-worship-elektra/"/]rnrn rn rn Why We Ship It: 1) Karen/Matt are a crap couple. That is a fact. Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) is a large part of why Nelson and Murdock is no more. She's the Yoko of the Marvel's Daredevil universe. 2) Elktra/Matt is toxic. Which leaves only one other option.

rn In their short time on screen together Claire and Matt have more chemistry than Karen and Matt ever will. Elktra (Élodie Yung) and Matt's relationship was built on manipulation and while there's no doubt that she loves him (enough to sacrifice herself for him), it wouldn't work long term. They like to toy with each other too much. Claire and Matt had an organicness that's only true of superhero shows. But it's still organic.

rn She knew all of Matt's secrets from his identity to his eyesight before anyone else and when it came down to it she chose not to get involved because it was too risky for her and her job. Except in season two she quits. Obviously not to be Matt's full-time nurse (even though he could totally use something like that) but actually because it was her own "normal" way of being an everyday kind of superhero. These two could be amazing if Marvel would cut out the nonsense!

rnrn - Julie Linzer rn rnrn[nextslide teaser="Delphine/Cosima - Orphan Black" slider="true"/]rnrn rn rnrnhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJrxJrttPyorn Delphine/Cosima - Orphan Black rn rn rn Couple: Dr. Delphine Cormier and Cosima Niehaus=Cophine rn rn Has it Gone Canon: Kind of. Delphine (Évelyne Brochu) and Cosima (Tatiana Maslany) have been together on and off since Orphan Black 's first season. Delphine started as Cosima's monitor and things got complicated from there as she rose up in the ranks of Dyad. In the season three finale they seemed on the path the finally repairing their relationship when Delphine was shot in the stomach in a parking garage. Season four spent a lot of time mourning the loss while simultaneously teasing the possibility that she was alive. In the season four finale Delphine rescues Cosima, leading to a ton of new revelations. With season five heralding the conclusion of the series, it'll be nice to see these two finally settle down. rn rnrn[nextpost teaser="15 Most Memorable Television Weddings of All-Time" url="https://hiddenremote.com/2016/06/08/15-most-memorable-television-weddings-of-all-time/"/]rnrn rn rn Why We Ship It: There are a lot of lies in the Orphan Black universe and they lead to some really difficult revelations about the clones and their history. There are deep organizations all intertwined and the possibility that the father of Neolution himself is actually still alive. Cosima is a fan favorite. As the show's resident scientist and pop culture fan she resonates because she's all of us (and Tatiana could play us all and it would be magical). Delphine is equally beautiful and brilliant and very French. Most importantly she tries to both protect Cosima (and her sisters) and not lie to her. In many cases she actually does tell her the truth but Cosima has a hard time trusting her. It seems like a bad mix but it's not. They actually have really excellent communication and they're trying. rn rn Delphine is often seen as a puppy to the fandom and it's accurate. We just want to see her love and be loved in return. These two are so sweet! With season five heralding the conclusion of the series, it'll be nice to see these two finally settle down. rn rn rn - Julie Linzer rn rnrn[nextslide teaser="Jaime/Brienne - Game of Thrones" slider="true"/]rnrn rn rnrnhttps://youtu.be/46dH7HFX2mU?t=1m53srn Jaime/Brienne - Game of Thrones rn rn Couple: Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth...Beauty and the Beast? Otherwise they have no ship name and it honestly wouldn't suit them if they did. rn rn Has it Gone Canon: No but enough has been intimated that they love each other. Jaime essentially refused to go to war in season 6 for her and was relieved when he saw her escape. rn rn rn Why We Ship It: I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with my colleague Erin in her earlier slide. Brienne's affections are most definitely not waning on Jaime. If anything they were reinforced in season 6. Jaime even repeated his iconic line "The things we do for love." All why outside the tent Bronn (Jerome Flynn) made suggested comments about what they were doing in there. These two love each other!

rn[nextpost teaser="50 Ways to Get By Until ‘Game of Thrones’ Returns in Summer 2017" url="https://hiddenremote.com/2017/01/01/game-of-thrones-bucket-list/"/]rnrn It started all the back in season two when they bickered and name called on their way to King's Landing. Jaime grew to respect Brienne both as a knight and a woman. He loses his freaking hand preventing her rape (never forget! No matter how badly the writer's botch his character!). He gifts her the other half of Ice (though it should be noted he now carries the half that was given to Joffrey) and armor that actually fits. But most significantly he tells her the truth about that horrible nickname of his. And it was incredibly significant that Jaime returned for her after he was granted his freedom, only to find her in a pit with a bear. He jumps in front of her (and remember he has no sword hand at this point) to protect her and they get out of there by working together. It was stupid and thoughtless and just the kind of thing you do for love. rn Their relationship (okay friendship for now) is built is a ton of mutual respect. Brienne admits her loyalty to Renly because he was kind to her when others weren't. But she doesn't owe Jaime anything and yet when it looks like there's a battle on the horizon the two try and figure out the quickest way to avoid a fight - where they would be on opposing sides. Jaime without hesitation loves Brienne and visa versa. I want nothing more than for these two to make it out alive so that they be together. There is no official ship name rn rn Has it Gone Canon: No but it seemed pretty close. rn rn rn Why We Ship It: I was pretty disappointed to discover that Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Steve (Joe Keery) had gotten back together. But they're teenagers so I'm also not exactly sure what I expected. There's time for this ship to grow-up a bit more but the chemistry between Nancy and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) was undeniable. It'll be interesting to see how their friendship (for now) progresses. rn rn - Julie Linzer rn rnrn[nextslide teaser="Coulson/May - Agents of Shield" slider="true"/]rnrn rn rnrnhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4g39XB1yEg0rn Coulson/May - Agents of Shield rn rn Couple: Phil Coulson and Melinda May=Philinda rn rn Has it Gone Canon: Kind of...It's really (unnecessarily) complicated right now. rn rn rn Why We Ship It: As of the most recent Agents of Shield it would seem like things have taken a turn for the canon but alas, Coulson (Clark Gregg) kissed robot May (Ming-Na Wen) which presents a lot of obstacles when he eventually realizes the truth and how that'll affect his and May's actual friendship and potential as a couple. It's been a rocky road to get where they are now but it's going to get a lot harder before it gets easier! They've spent a lot of time both wanting the same thing but to afraid to do anything about it so it'll be nice if Coulson isn't deterred by the LMD and just goes for it when May inevitably gets herself free. rn rn - Julie Linzer rn rnrn[nextslide teaser="Arya/Gendry - Came of Thrones" slider="true"/]rnrn rn rnrnhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umPmPbgXtxkrn Arya/Gendry - Game of Thrones rn rn Couple: Arya Stark and Gendry=Gendrya rn rn Has it Gone Canon: I mean kind of...sort of...It was left pretty open-ended. rn rn rn Why We Ship It: Despite the fact that Gendry (Joe Demise) has been rowing that stupid boat since season three, he and Arya (Maisie Willaims) were the absolutely most! She was considerably younger at the time and nothing in particular happened but the chemistry was written into every scene.

rnrn Once instances in particular that clearly defines the ship is when Gendry tells Arya that she wouldn't be his family, she'd be his lady. I don't even have room here to list all the ways these two are absolute perfection for each other but I know I really don't understand why it's not as universal as it should be. I mean what is unequivocally the reunion of lovers of in the season five premiere . And then we have all of these moments from the entire series. The show has remained decidedly annoying about the will-they-or-won't-they aspect. It's something that has come up in almost every interview with Norman Reedus and/or Melissa McBride. And it makes sense not to say anything one way or the other because really their interactions do all the talking.

It's probably too much to hope that they finally go canon but it's really not hard to make me happy when it comes to these two. They just deserve so much! I mean Carl has gotten more action that Daryl! And Carol so deserves to have nice things after everything she's been through! Seriously how much longer do we have to wait for that season five scene in "Consumed" to have a naked repeat version!
