It’s time for the ‘2 Broke Girls’ to meet the parents! But can Caroline rise to the occasion and compel Bobby’s family to fall out of love with his perfect ex?

More from CBS

It happens all the time on sitcoms. A couple decides to take their relationship to the next level by meeting the family, and one of the families is either an endearing hot mess or suspiciously perfect. Meanwhile, the other is unwelcoming and hard to please—namely the hyper-protective mother.

2 Broke Girls plays into that trope as Caroline meets Bobby’s mother (guest star Nora Dunn) and sisters. Bobby’s father recently passed away, but the women in his life haven’t got a tear left to shed for the poor guy. Nope, they have been too busy mourning the tragic loss of Bobby’s ex, Jessica, and her A+ marinara. Not exactly the embracing environment Caroline had in mind. But 2 Broke Girls flips the trope on its head by bringing along Caroline’s endearing hot mess of a family and finding a unique way for Caroline to weasel her way into Bobby’s mom’s heart without forfeiting all of her dignity. Well, whatever’s left of it after six years of groaning about waitressing. Let’s break down the five richest one-liners from the latest episode!

1. “Wish I could move back home, but they don’t make Pontiacs anymore.”

Caroline throws the fact that she has a new boyfriend in everyone’s faces, but she can’t stay at Bobby’s place because he lives at home with his family. Of course, Max quips about wanting to live at home, wherever that may be. Isn’t there something sad about Max’s nostalgic commentary? Just imagine what her #tbt photos must look like—if she has any.

2. “Are you aware your husband is dressed for a canoe trip?”

Bobby invites Max and Caroline to a party his house, which the diner gang quickly overhears and accepts as a blanket invitation. Caroline tries to tell Sophie and Oleg the gathering had been canceled when they arrive at their apartment dressed for a beach day, but there’s no turning down those two. They even brought a movie to watch: Manchester by the Double D’s.

3. “This chair has another chair for your feet!”

In one of the greatest Max moments in 2 Broke Girls history, Max cannot believe her eyes when she enters Bobby’s home. It’s not a palace or even a brand new suburban home. It looks more like the set of Mike & Molly, but Max is in heaven. She discovers the majesty of two-story homes and reclining chairs with childlike amazement. I’d watch three full hours of Kat Dennings as Max taking a walking tour of an upscale mansion.

4. “You like them? I got ’em for Christmas?”

Unsurprisingly, Bobby’s mom isn’t quick to accept Caroline. The shadow of Jessica still looms large in the home. So large that Bobby’s sister Chrissy refuses to leave her room. Caroline tries every tool in her arsenal, including Denise’s inexplicable crush on Han. She even asks Max to denounce Jessica’s prized sauce in order for Bobby’s mom to prefer Caroline. But Caroline brings matters into her own hands and brings Chrissy a plate of food, accidentally breaking a framed photo of Jessica in the process.

5. “Relax, Caroline. Nobody likes you right away.”

When Sophie lets the cat out of the bag that Bobby spends the night at Caroline’s on the regular (mind you, they are two consenting, grown adults), Bobby doesn’t try to appease his scandalized mother. Rather, he breaks the Jessica spell once and for all. Bobby’s mother finally accepts Caroline for making her son happy, resulting in a group hug between the two and Max. She and Earl will be fighting over the recliner forever.
