The Americans alum Michael Aronov won at Sunday’s Tony Awards, taking home the trophy for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his performance in ‘Oslo.’

Michael Aronov, who portrayed troubled scientist Anton Baklanov in multiple episodes of The Americans, is now a Tony Award winner.

Aronov won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for Oslo, in which he plays Uri Savir. The play depicts the secret negotiations that led up to the Oslo Peace Accords between Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization in the 1990’s, and also won the Tony Award for Best Play on Sunday night.

Fans of The Americans will know Michael Aronov better for his extensive arc as Anton Baklanov, the scientist who was captured and sent back to the Soviet Union by Philip and Elizabeth Jennings. Once he was put to work there developing military technology, the KGB tasked captured double agent Nina Krilova (Annet Mahendru) with getting close to Anton.

Nina spent much of The Americans season 4 befriending Anton, and the two of them formed a genuine friendship that would come to be the last pivotal relationship in Nina’s life. It was working on smuggling a message out to Anton’s family that got Nina in hot water with her masters and was part of what led to her ultimate execution.

So it was Michael Aronov who played a major part in Annet Mahendru’s exit storyline from the show, and the two of them together gave exceptional performances. It’s no surprise that Aronov has now been recognized for his work with one of theatre’s top honors.

For people who want to see Michael Aronov in Oslo, the production opened on Broadway in April and is still running at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. Tickets can be purchased through the venue’s website.
