Wet Hot American Summer the movie took place over the course of the very last day of camp. Nearly 15 years later Netflix took us back to that very first day in their original series Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp. And once again Netflix is taking us 10 years later to…er…1991.
Last week, Netflix dropped the official trailer (which if you haven’t already seen it check it out below!). Harkening back to the iconic ending of the film where the counselors of Camp Firewood promised to return ten years later for a reunion. An iconic movie for anyone who was going to sleep-away camp around the time it came out and those of us who lived vicariously. The movie even included a brief scene at the end that depicted a few moments of that reunion but Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later is so much more than arguing over what time everyone should get there (which for the record we agreed on meeting at 9).
Prior to the trailer drop, news on the latest installment to the burgeoning Wet Hot American Summer series was sparse. Aside from a few tidbits (and tweets) about filming – much like summers spent at Camp Firewood – it was hard to know if a new series was even real. But real it is!
Nostalgia culture is fun to a point but I’m not particularly big on the idea of reunions – mostly the high school kind. 10/10 would definitely watch all of Wet Hot American Summer over going anywhere near my high school reunion. And while I’d have to ask a friend if camp-fam really do get together, I can’t imagine it’s anything close to the shenanigans we’ll see in the coming season.
The TV reunion is an entirely different story and lucky for us, this isn’t one! More sequel than First Day of Camp, it’s exciting to see so many TV and movie faves in one place again, which is nothing at all like a real reunion anyway! Though the most realistic part might be the fact that sadly, not everyone – aka Bradley Cooper’s schedule may or may not have permitted him from returning – will be able to attend (or so we’re lead to believe). Still, we’re hyped that there are a ton of new faces making appearances at Camp Firewood this time around, among so many other things to look forward to! Check out the top 5 reasons we can’t wait to return to Camp Firewood below:
1) Welcome Campers!
Speaking of new faces WHAS totes the likes of: Jai Courtney, Skyler Gisondo, Mark Feuerstein, Mario Thomas, Dax Shepard, and Sarah Burns. As well as Alyssa Milano (theories on what’s going on between her and McKinley (Michael Ian Black) abound!) and Adam Scott!Wet Hot American Summer Ten Years Later Season 1 Episode 1 Picture: Adam Scott Photo Credit: Courtesy Netflix via Netflix Media Center
2) Walla-Walla-hey, campers! Remember? Like we all used to say?
As previously mentioned most of the OG Camp Firewood counselors/campers/staff will be returning for the sequel. There were a few notably absent characters from the trailer but that hardly means anything. I’m sure there will be a ton of surprises throughout the season!
3) Camp Tigerclaw
Also making a comeback is Camp Tigerclaw, the evil camp across the way, still popping their collars like the douches they’ll always be. We also have Kirsten Wiig in a fancy 90’s dress, showing off some seriously cool new technology!
4) Whatever the hell Chris Pine is up to…No, seriously WTF is he doing?
Why? I just…Why is this show like this? Why is this is even already so funny with exactly zero context? I have so many questions and only two of them involve an idea for an Ant-Man/Wonder Woman crossover…Nope wait three and a half…Wait…Hold up! Didn’t he get shot, fall off a roof, and get run over by a jeep in Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp or am I confusing him with another Chris?
5) Will that thing between those two finally happen?
If you’re thinking of Katie (Marguerite) and Coop (Michael Showalter) we have no idea because it appears they’re still terrible at communicating everything and nothing. But it sure looks like Andy (Paul Rudd) and Katie are rekindling…well…Whatever it is they had 10 year ago.Wet Hot American Summer: 10 Years Later Season 1 Episode 3 Pictured: Marguerite Moreau, Paul Rudd Photo Credit: Saeed Adyani/Netflix via Netflix Media Center
If you weren’t already excited to head back to Camp Firewood we bet you are now! Unfortunately, the only thing keeping us from going higher and higher is that we have to wait all the way until August 4th!
Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later premieres on Netflix on August 4th. Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp is currently streaming on Netflix.
