Fed up with the world? Let ‘This Is Us’ star Mandy Moore guide you through the ‘bewilderment’ with vintage glasses and a photo by Milo Ventimiglia.

More from This Is Us

It’s no secret that 2017 has been far from the best of times. Each day brings another soul-crushing headline with widespread effects for multiple groups of people nationwide and around the globe. While there are countless methods for handling the latest horrors, such as springing to action or using your voice, This Is Us star Mandy Moore has unlocked a new means of self-care to help us all survive the frustration with a smile on our faces.

On Tuesday during a break filming Season 2 of This Is Us, Moore posted a photo of herself on Instagram, a photo taken by TV husband Milo Ventimiglia, and it threw us back to a look Rebecca Pearson would never have rocked. Wearing super-vintage and ultra-outdated glasses, Moore showed off an unexpected throwback style in the giant frames. But as is the truth with all fashion choices, it’s not about how it looks, it’s about how it makes you feel. And for a minute, those clunky vintage glasses made Mandy Moore feel cathartic and ready to laugh the news away.

“Sometimes the news of the day is so disheartening that all you can do is walk across the street on a break from work and throw on a pair of ridiculous vintage glasses that remind you of your least favorite babysitter when you were a kid and try to smile through the frustration and bewilderment,” Moore wrote on Instagram.

It’s sage advice from the star, who has been busy back on set in the midst of the torrential downpour of current events. Who knew that freeing your mind of one “disheartening” figure was as easy as recalling the questionable style choices of another? Surely, Mandy Moore’s least favorite babysitter ever has also found the humor in these vintage glasses.

Whether personal or otherwise, even Mandy Moore’s workdays get wearing, even she carries the weight of the world, even her axis is thrown off balance by a the byproducts of a bad day. We’re all in it together.

And her photo drives home the subtext of This Is Us’ themes tenfold. Finding happy, no matter how momentary, can be as easy as slipping on a pair of spectacles and letting out a good chuckle, with or without Milo Ventimiglia beside you to snap your picture.
