Kyle Harris on new roles in the Stitchers lab, working with Stinger, reuniting Kirsten with her mother, and the ultimate Season 3 cliffhanger.

The Stitchers Season 3 finale episode, “Maternis,” looks to finally close the chapter on Kirsten’s search for her mother. Kyle Harris, who plays Dr. Cameron Goodkin on the Freeform series, will be facing the most difficult stitch he’s ever had to run in Monday night’s episode, but according to Harris, Cameron might need to take a backseat to someone else (and we’re not talking about Camille).

We spoke with Harris to learn more about how Cameron will be affected by the Stinger/Clarke family reunion in his lab and why this episode is truly special for #Camsten lovers everywhere (hint: this ain’t your grandma’s wedding processional). Oh, and that cliffhanger you keep hearing about? The Stitchers cast is just as shook as the fandom will be.

Hidden Remote: Cameron is very concerned and meticulous about stitching when it comes to Kirsten’s safety, and we know Linus made that oxytocin filter, but is Cameron going to be afraid to stitch now that Kirsten has… higher oxytocin levels?

Kyle Harris: I think in his mind going forward now that Linus has given them the filter, he obviously acts on that as if this is bulletproof. Coming into the finale, we learn kind of quickly that maybe it might not be as bulletproof as they thought, and of course, leave it to Linus, it comes to a complication that the team is going to have to face going forward in the final stitches of this season.

Hidden Remote: Is Stinger going to interact with Cameron in the finale?

Harris: Yes, that is definitely going to be one of the factors that makes the finale so interesting. Cameron is going to have to essentially give way for Stinger in his lab to run a stitch. It’s kind of against [Cameron’s] will, but he knows Stinger’s the only person who really knows how to deal with stitching into a live person. So as much as Cameron doesn’t want to let him anywhere near his technology in his lab, he has to kind of take a backseat and be a little simpatico with the big bad of our show, which is an interesting dynamic.

Hidden Remote: We saw in the teaser that this is going to be the most difficult stitch we’ve ever seen on the show. What can you tell us about why this stitch is so unique or intense?

Harris: It’s unique in the sense that we’re dealing with someone who’s not entirely dead, and we’re dealing with a reversal stitch. You are going to see some people in different places in the lab where they shouldn’t be, or normally aren’t. This is all Stinger’s operation. It’s his master plan about how to save it. We’re all kind of flying by the seat of his pants here, trusting the man we’ve been after this entire time, but at this point they have no other choice because they’re all out of options.

Hidden Remote: Did we catch a glimpse of Kirsten in the corpse cassette?

Harris: If you look closely, yeah. You might see some people not in the water who you’re used to seeing in the water and vice versa.

Hidden Remote: How important is it for Cameron to make sure that Kirsten is able to reunite with her mom?

Harris: I think, just as anyone who’s in love with someone, their success and their dreams are your dreams. This is something obviously that was Kirsten’s mission, and it’s not only become Cameron’s mission, but it’s become the entire team’s. This is ultimately something… what Cameron thinks is the best for Kirsten and for the team. He knows that he has to go out on a limb for her because the entire reason that they’re essentially able to have their jobs and their lives is because of Kirsten. So at this point it’s like, ‘Hey, you did this for us. We need to do this for you.’

Hidden Remote: Are you able to tease why Cameron is crying in the trailer video?

More from Interviews

Harris: It’s one of those things that when you watch the finale, everything that you’ve been watching so far in Seasons 1 through 3, the mythology of the program, picking the cases, what’s going on with Jacqueline and Daniel Stinger — that all comes to a close.

We kind of close the chapter on that one, and just when you think the show has kind of wrapped itself up nicely in a bow, there’s a one-two punch that really just turns the page on chapter 2 and leaves you screaming kind of at the screen like, ‘What does all of this mean and where do we go from here?’

Not only are the fans going to be extremely upset to have to wait and find out, but the actors all have it running through their minds… to see where the potential of this show could go.

Hidden Remote: Linus worked very hard in Season 3 to make sure Cameron and Kirsten got to be together, and if Linus and Ivy ever did became a couple in the future, do you think Cameron would approve of their relationship?

Harris: That’s a good question. I don’t think so, but if you look at everyone’s relationships, everyone’s always has some kind of distrust with someone on the show or some kind of beef with someone on the show, except for Cameron and Linus. They are really the two constants. They’ve never really had any kind of argument with one another. They’ve always had each other’s backs.

[Ivy] could be something that tears them apart because Linus would be following his heart and Cameron’s following his head and only has the best intentions for Linus. You’ve seen in Episode 9 how he was trying to protect him from Ivy, and I think that would be an interesting dynamic to play out between the two going forward because as much as he wants to root for Linus finding love, I think at the end of the day that this might not be the best place to find it.

Hidden Remote: Fans of the show are very vocal about their love for the #Camsten relationship. What’s been your favorite #Camsten moment of Season 3?

Harris: Hmmm, I really think in the finale there’s just a culmination when Kirsten and Cameron find her mother in this industrial cathedral with this tank sitting there, and they’re holding hands walking up to it. It’s not only because it’s a moment with Cameron and Kirsten, but it is kind of a penultimate moment for the two for the show. Their entire purpose of getting together, of meeting, was to essentially find her mother and solve these cases, and this is the biggest case they’ve been looking for despite all of the other in-between cases.

To have that slo-mo moment of two of them walking up to this… it’s almost a bit of a weird wedding procession in a way, you know? Kind of like they’re walking down the aisle in this moment together, hand in hand, and I think it was kind of a beautiful moment because it was also the finale and it’s the climax of what they’ve been working towards the entire series.

Hidden Remote: How do you think fans will react to this Stitchers episode?

Harris: I think if you’ve been a fan of the show since day one, you’ve seen the Season 1 finale. You know Cameron flat-lined. You’re like, ‘Oh! Will he come back?’ but you know the show can’t go on without Cameron. Then you watch the Season 2 finale and you’re like, ‘Kirsten! Oh gosh, is she going to come back?’ but you know deep down, the show’s got to go on with Kirsten. This season finale, it wraps it up nicely and you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh. This is amazing. This is why, this is why, this is why!’ and then you hang onto that last scene.

Everything you thought you knew about the Stitchers program, everything you thought you had a grasp on is completely thrown out the window and leaves you essentially looking like Cameron does in that clip that we saw in the teaser… and now we have the actors on board wanting to know just as much information as the fans. When that happens you know you have something special going.
