In show business they always say, never work with children or animals, but there is something about animals and pets that automatically make us care about them just by being on-screen.

Whether it is man’s best friend or a fictional creature, the pets we see on TV can add some drama, comedy, or even emotion to any scene. Adding a cute little pet to any series is an easy way to give us something to like. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am often more emotional about the feelings of pets over the feelings of people.

There is something about the innocence of an animal that makes them so much more sympathetic. I am sure there were many challenges when working with all these animals, but they all added something special to the shows they were on. I know the animal lovers out there will be able to think of many entries to put on this list, but you can’t please everybody. Here is my list of 15 of the best pets from television history.

15. Vincent the Dog from Lost

Say what you will about Lost as a series, but there was nothing wrong with Vincent. He was a pure and good boy who loved Walt. Vincent was actually played by a female dog, but in canon he’s still a good boy. He traded owners pretty often throughout the series, but really belonged to everyone on the island. It was helpful to have him on the island when searching for supplies and detecting danger on the island. Vincent didn’t play the biggest role in the series as a whole, but he was there to comfort Jack right at the end and book-ended the series as an adorable and helpful companion.
