Matthew Daddario and Harry Shum Jr., who play Alec Lightwood and Magnus Bane (Malec) on Shadowhunters, took fans on a wild ride of emotions in the Season 2 finale.
The last few episodes of Shadowhunters Season 2 have proven to be a rollercoaster of emotions for Malec fans. In Episode 18, we saw a series of flashbacks that gave fans insight to the development of Alec and Magnus’ relationship over the course of the series, but at the end of the episode, the couple split up.
Even though Alec apologized for hiding the truth about the Soul-Sword from Magnus, the high warlock of Brooklyn put his trust in the Seelie Queen instead of with the Shadowhunters, betraying his trust in Alec’s ability to lead and protect the Shadow World.

In tonight’s season finale however, we followed Magnus as he worked alongside Alec and Isabelle to help close the rift and protect New York City from the released flying demons, and their tag-teaming truly did give us all of the feels.
The fandom exploded when Malec began talking in the same spot where they had their first real date… and it looks like the couple is back together as we head into Season 3!
7 Major Malec feels in Season 2, Episode 20:
7) Reaching out for help
When Alec knocked on Magnus’ door to ask for his help to take on the flying demons, we knew this was the start of a much-needed journey for the two. After all, they are a truly heroic power couple…
6) Malec tag-teaming to close the rift
Edom totally chose to send these kinds of demons on purpose so Alec could show off his archery skills, right? Well, at least until the only thing Alec could do was run away… but that’s ok because Alec screaming out for Magnus to help him was everything.
Magnus was super impressive as he saved Alec’s life and closed the rift simultaneously, and we were so happy to see them care about each other’s well-being once again.
5) Alec rushing to Magnus’ side
There was a little bit of emotional foreshadowing at the end of the scene too. Did you catch it? When Alec rushed over to Magnus’ side after his energy was depleted, Magnus told him, “You can’t get rid of me that easily.” Swoon!
4) Magnus rushing to Alec’s side
When Alec screamed out in pain after Jace was stabbed by Valentine, he crashed to the floor in the Institute. Magnus slipped on the tile as he ran to be by Alec’s side, reaching out to comfort the Shadowhunter who felt Jace slipping away through their parabatai bond. If you look up “heartbreaking” in the dictionary, we’re pretty sure you’ll find gifs of this scene.
3 – Malec reuniting at Hunter’s Moon
Coincidence that Malec agreed to talk about their fight while standing near the billiard table where they had their first official date? I think not! Magnus even seemed to be back to his charming self, happy to have Alec join him. We know where this is going…
2 – Alley conversations and kisses
This alley behind Hunter’s Moon has some stories to tell! The conversation between Alec and Magnus reminded us of their scene together in the 2A finale, but this time, Alec spoke with even more heart. “I don’t think I can live without you,” he said to Magnus.
And if that weren’t enough, Magnus replied by saying, “I thought I had to choose between you and the Downworld, but I don’t.”
Does that mean they’re officially together again?! We think it does!
1 – Malec ditching the party
Who needs a Shadow World party when you could be home with your OTP? Alec and Magnus walked away from the party with their arms wrapped around each other’s backs. The only problem we have is that we now have to wait all the way until Season 3 for more…
