You’ll never relate to anything as much as this picture of 12-year-old Mandy Moore

Mandy Moore posts an Instagram throwback photo of her pre-teen fake smile, and we have never related more to the This Is Us star.

More from This Is Us

The queen of Throwback Thursday strikes again! This Is Us star Mandy Moore has wowed her 1.4 million (a vastly anemic metric) Instagram followers with a steady stream of perfect throwback shots after that flood at her parents house. (Yeah, we’ve rolled that deep into Moore’s ‘gram.)

From opening for *NSYNC to showing off her earliest instances of star power, Mandy Moore’s Throwback Thursday game cannot be topped. I mean, who can boast a photo with Justin Timberlake and an extensive collection of photographic evidence of her questionable ’90s bangs? That’s what I thought! While it can be tough to relate to some of her throwbacks (we weren’t all successful pop singers at 16, now were we?), Moore’s latest nostalgic photo proves why her #TBT flow cannot be beat. We can’t relate to attending the VMAs instead of prom, but we can relate to Moore’s 7th grade fake smile.

Mandy Moore posted the image of her 12-year-old self on Instagram for her latest installment of Throwback Thursday, and it could possibly be her best work yet. In lieu of sporting her multi-colored braces or straight-cut bangs, middle school Moore wore her hair in a bob with a short ponytail. But her best accessory? That forced smile.

Listen, we all hate picture day. Who wants to take extra time to curate an outfit, stand in a line for literal minutes, and have a stranger tell you to smile? In the words of Liz Lemon, no thank you, please. Moore’s 7th grade “let’s just get this over with” smile aligns with not only my pre-teen angst, but it also speaks to my current mid-20s angst. We’ve all been there and fake smiled our way through the nonsense (especially This Is Us’ summer hiatus).

Next: Mandy Moore reflects on her early '00s style, and it's hilarious

Show me a man, woman, or child who hasn’t worn that same faux grin, and I’ll show you a liar. Seriously, I can’t be the only one. Does Mandy Moore’s pre-teen fake smile speak to you on a spiritual level, too? Hit the comments and let us know, and keep the conversation going on Twitter over at @thisisuscrying!

This Is Us returns for Season 2 on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 9/8c on NBC.
