NCIS season 15: Is David McCallum leaving NCIS?

Fans tuning into the third hour of NCIS Season 15 may have gotten the vibe that Ducky’s exit story has begun, but is David McCallum leaving the CBS drama?

As NCIS Season 15 continued with Episode 3, “Exit Strategy,” viewers watched as Dr. Donald Mallard stepped outside the walls of the NCIS morgue in order to lead a guest lecture at his former school. to say he was a hit with the students would be an understatement. During this time, his old friend Cadence Darwin attempted to persuade him into taking some time to mold the minds of the future by sharing his expertise and cases work from over the years via a semester of lectures and possibly even a book which Cadence could become the book future generations turn to to learn from the best.
The episode ended with Ducky accepting the offer and revealing his plan to take a step back to Palmer which has left some fans concerned with Ducky and, his portrayer, David McCallum’s future on the show. So could McCallum’s lovable medical examiner’s exit storyline have just begun?
Considering the way in which the network and NCIS team were upfront with the exit of fellow original star Michael Weatherly two years ago and the way they have handled the news that Season 15 will be the last for fellow original Pauley Perrette, McCallum’s exit would likely be announced weeks, if not months before his final appearance on the show. At this point, there has been no announcement from the CBS team regarding McCallum’s exit from the show which seems to confirm that there are not currently plans for McCallum to hang up his medical examiner’s jacket.

There’s also the fact that McCallum is currently credited to appear in several Season 15 episodes – a fact which only helps to support his continued involvement in the show. Although, the storyline introduced in Episode 3 could very well set up for Ducky’s departure should McCallum decide to make Season 15 his last.
