When in the MCU timeline does Punisher take place?

With several Marvel chapters in theaters and Netflix, fans can get confused with the timeline — when does The Punisher take place?

Netflix’s Marvel’s The Punisher is the latest series connected to the growing Marvel Cinematic Universe. Daredevil season two introduced us to Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) aka Punisher. Viewers instantly fell in love with Bernthal’s portrayal of the popular Marvel anti-hero and hoped for a standalone series following Punisher.

This past weekend, our dreams came true with the release of Marvel’s The Punisher. The series also stars Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page (also seen in Daredevil, Defenders), Ben Barnes as Jigsaw, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Micro.

By now, fans have completed their Punisher binge. But, surprisingly, there are no obvious signs of when the show takes place in the MCU. However, there’s one hint that confirm the events in Punisher happen a few months after The Defenders — Karen Page. She’s alone and not very happy about recent events. An interview with Deborah Ann Woll at Bustle confirms this:

"“The big thing that stood out to me at the beginning of Punisher is that she’s totally alone. If you watched Defenders, you know why Matt isn’t in her life and Foggy really isn’t in her life,” Woll says."

This also tells us that Matt aka Daredevil, is believed to be dead long months after the conclusion of Defenders. Surely he has recovered by now? Perhaps he wishes to continue being in hiding?

Up next for Marvel on Netflix is Jessica Jones season 2! The classy lady is set to return sometime before summer of 2018. The series will be followed by Luke Cage season 2, and in late 2018 or early 2019, Daredevil season 3 arrives. Finally, Iron Fist season 2 is expected in 2019. Then, we’re hoping for Defenders 2, but that has yet to be announced.
