At the conclusion of the Legends of Tomorrow midseason finale, Matt Ryan reprised his role as anti-hero John Constantine, surprising Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) as she rebounded the Waverider after bidding farewell to Jax, who decided to leave the crew following the death of Martin. Judging from the promo for the back half of Season 3, Constantine will be sticking around for more than just a one-off episode as he joins the Legends in battling their latest threat: the mysterious Mallus.
The cameo in the Legends of Tomorrow midseason finale marked his second appearance in the Arrowverse – having previously appeared on Arrow as part of the storyline which helped Sara get her soul back following her dip in the Lazarus Pit – but before making the jump to The CW, Constantine headlined his own series which ran for 13 episodes on NBC. The one-and-done drama served to help introduce the character to viewers and is the perfect crash course on the Legends’ new team addition.
