Every Avenger we know survives the major battle in Avengers: Infinity War
By Paul Zuniga
Later this year, Avengers: Infinity War will see Earth’s Mightiest take on the baddest of the bad, Thanos. When they do, the Avengers are going to incur some losses. Fortunately, most of them are safe and we know exactly which heroes are.

At the moment, the big question on every Marvel fans’ mind is who’ll die in Avengers: Infinity War. Theories and speculation range from the most believable to the somewhat implausible, but no one knows for sure. It could be one, or it could be multiple Avengers who meet their deaths. Either way, the “new” Avengers are going to look vastly different when Avengers 4 rolls around.
In lieu of that, let’s take a look at all the heroes we know are going to survive the massive battle in Infinity War and who’ll go on to star in future Marvel films. (Note: The following claims are based on information collected from set images and production details, so read at your own risk.)
Spoilers Ahead…
Iron Man
The first and seemingly obvious Avenger to survive is Tony Stark. Even though Stark can be seen taking the Mad Titan head on in the Infinity War trailer, he’ll survive. Set images from Avengers 4 confirm that Tony Stark reunites with Pepper Potts, as well as Bruce Banner. Seeing them together proves that Stark survives his encounter with Thanos. The question is, will he make it to the end of Avengers 4 alive?
Hulk
As mentioned above, Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) reunites with Tony Stark in Avengers 4 so he’s obviously not dying in the big fight. Though, their reunion comes with sad tidings—evidenced by the tearful look on Banner’s face. Nevertheless, Banner survives his fight with the Outriders and makes it all the way through the events of Infinity War. And if we think about it, Hulk doesn’t seem like the type to die.
Hawkeye
Another hero proven safe thanks to set images form Avengers 4 is Hawkeye. The actor who plays him, Jeremy Renner was recently spotted walking on set with some interesting leg guards on. Leg guards that also point to Clint Barton taking on a new moniker: Ronin. The black leg guards are indicative of Ronin’s costume from the comics, so it’s probably safe to assume this is some part of the New Avengers initiative.
Spider-Man
Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is yet another hero who’ll take on Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War but he’ll survive the fight. Keep in mind that Parker may not leave unscathed, but at least he’ll survive long enough to take part in Spider-Man: Homecoming 2. The sequel to last year’s feature film guarantees Peter Parker a spot in the follow-up, unless.
There is a slight possibility that a new hero will become Spider-Man in the following Homecoming film. It’s only a small chance at this moment, but we shouldn’t rule it out. Of course, Parker staying on for the foreseeable future seems likelier—that is unless Sony intends to recast Spider-Man yet again.
Thor
The final Avenger we know survives Infinity War is Thor. The reason we know is becaus Chris Hemsworth was recently quoted talking about filming on Avengers 4. In his comments, Hemsworth inadvertently confirms his role in the MCU after Infinity War. But, one could argue that Hemsworth shooting scenes doesn’t necessarily mean Thor survives—especially when Thor is under Thanos’ heel in the Infinity War trailer.
Reasonably speaking, Thor could die during Infinity War and then be brought back in Avengers 4. It would be somewhat of a cop out to kill Thor off only to resurrect him shortly after, and that doesn’t seem like a move Marvel is going to make with the character. Then again, I could be wrong.
For all we know, Thor is set up to die in Avengers: Infinity War, only to be brought back when the Infinity Gauntlet changes hands. If that’s the case, Thor’s death wouldn’t matter in any case.
Who Else Is Safe From The Chopping Block In Avengers: Infinity War?
Aside from the heroes listed above, there’s a chance most of the Avengers will survive the events of Avengers: Infinity War. Killing off a whole group of featured characters doesn’t seem like something Marvel would do, especially when they’ve put so much time into making said characters fixtures of the MCU. My guess is that one major character and minor character will meet their ends: Steve Rogers and War Machine.
Both heroes have been rumored to be on the chopping block for some time now and I could definitely see them meeting a permanent end. Rogers is obviously reaching the end of his rope; presumably after Bucky Barnes takes over as the new Captain America. And Rhodes’ death seems like that could be the cause of Banner’s distressed reunion with Tony Stark and Pepper Potts. Banner does appear to be delivering bad news, which gives me the impression of a close felt loss befalling Pepper and Tony: Rhodes.
Next: Who will die in Avengers: Infinity War? Ranking from most likely to least likely
Whatever happens, we shouldn’t count on seeing more than three Avengers dying before the Infinity War ends. Then again, I wouldn’t be surprised in the event of a massive reboot being done on the MCU. One where most of the heroes we’ve come to know over the past eight years will be erased from existence, but I’ll leave that up to you to decide.
Avengers: Infinity War opens in theaters on May 4, 2018. Avengers 4 premieres on May 3, 2019.
Do you think these heroes are safe in Avengers: Infinity War? If not, then who?
