With recent allegations against Aziz Ansari coming to light, will Netflix pull the plug on Master of None, including previous and upcoming seasons?

Netflix’s push for original content might already be taking a loss this week. With recent reports coming out alleging Aziz Ansari of sexual assault, the end could be closer than we thought. His hit Master of None has won many accolades and critical praise, but will Netflix dump the series with the new allegations?

On Saturday, January 14, a former date of Ansari’s spoke up about feeling uncomfortable while on a date with him. She mentioned multiple incidents where he made her feel uncomfortable and tried to become sexual when she told him no. What makes it even sicker is her talking about him referring to her by a character’s name.

Ansari has yet to comment on the allegations. Even so, it feels like a huge slap in the face to fans of Master of None. In season 2, the series spent a few episodes exploring a plotline about Dev’s co-host being accused of sexual assault. It was ultimately his undoing and in the show, Dev doesn’t know how to act.

It’s the classic case of life mimicking art here whereas it’s unclear what Netflix will do and how they will address this situation. With the show’s success, it’s hard to imagine them canceling it, but it would be the right thing to do. It would get Ansari away from the project and hopefully, make room for better content.

If Netflix doesn’t cancel the show, it sets a bad precedent for the network and how willingly they’ve able to brush it off for Ansari. This is certainly a wake-up call to those who loved Ansari in both Master of None and Parks and Rec. Hopefully, Netflix does the right thing and puts a stop to production.

It’s a disgusting and cheap move by Ansari. After creating such a powerful episode, its gross to hear about him committing a similar act. To think about how many conversations it brought up and how it shed some light on sexual harassment. Either way, it’s hard to imagine Netflix keeping it after producing an episode similar.

The biggest concern ultimately is the victim and the bravery she showed. Speaking out is not easy to do and it was incredibly courageous of her to speak out. Hopefully, she feels a sense of relief and will be able to move on. At its heart, it’s all about her and how she can rebuild the pieces of her life.
