The stunning statement jewelry of HBO’s Divorce
By Erin Qualey
The lives of the characters on HBO’s Divorce are always shifting, but the stunning statement jewelry is a welcome constant.
Frances DuFresne has been through a lot in the past two seasons of HBO’s Divorce. She’s separated from her husband, quit her day job, and passionately embarked upon her dream career as a gallery owner. But, through it all, she’s always stayed true to her own personal style.

Adorned in brightly colored shirt dresses and vintage Coach purses, Frances navigates the waters of her new, unpredictable life. A style icon from her days as daring fashionista Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker can rock a newspaper print dress like the best of them but, as Frances, she seems to relax into the predictability and comfort of a wardrobe with a defined style and utility.
The biggest constants in Frances’ fashion arsenal are the silver bangles that she wears on her wrists at every occasion. Whether she’s running out of the house with curlers in her hair or at a fancy event, Frances seems quite attached to these two pieces, almost as if they’re an extension of herself.
If you’re a person who has a favorite accessory, you’ll know that there’s something comforting about tossing on a beloved statement piece. There’s a confidence that comes with consistently reaching for an item that speaks to you on such a personal level that you can wear it day after day without getting bored. Frances, along with several of the female characters on Divorce, clearly have favorite items of jewelry that go beyond just a passion for attractive baubles.
When Divorce Costume Designer Joseph La Corte began to source the pieces for two of the new characters in Season 2 of the show, he took care to find items that told a compelling story about the women wearing them. We contacted La Corte about the gorgeous jewelry on Divorce, and he let us in on all the styling secrets.
Sarah Jessica Parker as Frances DuFresne
Joseph La Corte, on Frances’ signature turquoise cuffs: “One [of these bracelets] was bought at the Brooklyn flea market and the other from Etsy. These bracelets were chosen during season one of Divorce. They speak to Frances’s eclectic and multi-cultural tastes, as well as her singular style.”
Becki Newton as Jackie Giannopolis
This season, La Corte had the opportunity to select pieces for new character Jackie, Robert’s (Thomas Haden Church) love interest. He says, “Jackie is a no-nonsense, smart, beautiful, and successful real estate agent. Her statement pieces were delicate and understated, but spoke volumes about her character. The necklaces were the actors own. She never takes them off, and we felt they were right for her character, so we kept them.”
Newton’s gold double ring necklace is from Cartier, and the black pendant necklace is from Ron Herman in Los Angeles. At other points throughout the season, her character also wears a nail bracelet from Cartier and a gold bangle from Fred of London.
Roslyn Ruff as Sylvia MacDonald
La Corte says that Sylvia was one of his favorite characters to style this season. He states that, “her creativity and passion, despite her financial struggles, enabled her to wear pieces that she found while shopping flea markets and other items passed down to her from family members. The same eye and aesthetic which informs her art, shows up in the pieces she wears.”
Sylvia’s earrings and rings were sourced at a vintage store called Suburban Renewal in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.
‘Divorce’ airs Sundays at 10/9 c on HBO.
