With Supernatural writers typing up loose ends, it feels like the end of the series could be coming soon.

More from Supernatural

Even though Supernatural has been on air for 13 seasons, it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. The storylines have been fresh. The characters continue to grow. Plus, it doesn’t seem the main stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are ready to hang it up yet.

But after 13 seasons, the end has to be closer than the beginning. Lately, a few things has made it feel as though the end could much, much closer than Supernatural fans are ready for.

That feeling occurred after watching the latest episode. While seeing Gabriel back delighted fans, it hit me that the writers were closing up a lot of open-ended questions this season.

Missouri Mosely came back – only to be killed. While she wasn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of Supernatural, she tied the series back to its beginning. She appeared in Season 1 with John Winchester. Her reappearance was to explain her granddaughter Patience, one of the potential Wayward Sisters.

The writers also brought back Rowena. Her death last season didn’t sit well with fans for a number of reasons. It just seemed to happen to matter-of-factly without any chance to actually say goodbye to the bad witch that everyone loves. Her death happened off-screen and everything was just so nonchalant about it.

But she is back and managed to rid the binds that held the bulk of power back. Rowena’s story seems it could be coming to a close as she got the thing she wanted most.

Then, there is Gabriel, probably the biggest question left hanging on Supernatural after it was revealed that Chuck was God.

Did Gabriel actually die by the hands of Lucifer in Season 5? It seemed that was the case, but there were always whispers that somehow, someway Gabriel – also known as the Trickster – managed to escape death yet again.

He reappeared in Season 9 as a supposed illusion, but the guest stint is when beliefs that Gabriel was still alive began to rise. Because when Castiel asked Gabriel if he is still alive, he gets an eyebrow wiggle, which leaves the question wide open.

Next: Supernatural brings back another old favorite

So what in the world happened with Gabriel? We have no idea, but that’s what the rest of the season is for.

However, bringing back Gabriel feels like the Supernatural writes are tying up a lot loose ends. Not only that, but there is a potential spin-off in the works that will allow the Supernatural world to continue just without the Winchesters.

Everything must come to an end, I’m just not sure I’m ready to let go of Supernatural, even after 13 years.

Tune into Supernatural on Thursdays on CW at 8/7c.
