The Handmaid’s Tale made a pretty big impact on critics and audiences alike in 2017, and this year, the show is picking up some momentum with some new additions to its cast. Deadline reports that Bradley Whitford– fresh from his success Get Out– has joined the ever-growing cast of The Handmaid’s Tale season 2.
The site reports that Whitford will play Commander Joseph Lawrence, who is supposedly the economic brains of Gilead’s society. The site also describes the character as having “sly humor and flashes of kindness (which) make him a confusing, mysterious presence for his newest Handmaid…” but also described as “gruff and intimidating.”
Those who are familiar with Bradley Whitford are aware of how well he can handle humorously aggressive roles, which make him well suited for this job. It’s a testament to his talent with roles ranging from The West Wing all the way to Get Out. He can play both sinister and sweet, and imagining them both mixed into one does spark for an interesting character for The Handmaid’s Tale.
The official twitter account for the show already released a teaser, and the show is expected to return in April. To see the first glimpse, check out the video below:
Season 2 is said to center around the consequences of the finale and will deal very much with the child inside of Offred. More specifically her survival, as well as that of the child inside her from the horrors of Gilead. Should make for a compelling season.
