SEAL Team not on again: 5 shows to watch to get through the week

SEAL Team is taking another week’s break, as CBS airs another two-hour special of The Amazing Race.

This is the third week without new SEAL Team. In fact, it’s the third week without any David Boreanaz and co. at all. Unlike other networks and CBS on other nights during the Winter Olympics where reruns have been aired, CBS has opted for two-hour specials of The Amazing Race. For those, like me who just aren’t interested in reality shows, it’s put a dampener on your Wednesday evenings.

Just what can you watch to make it through another week without your favorite SEALs? There are a few reruns of other shows on other networks, but you can also power up Hulu and apps to catch other top shows. Here are five shows to watch to get you through the week.

More from CBS

#1. 9-1-1 on FOX

Let’s start with FOX’s hit new first responder series. 9-1-1 is packed with uncertain situations, danger and trouble. It focuses on first responders across the board, although mostly on the dispatchers, fire fighters and the police. Created by American Horror Story’s Ryan Murphy, it stars Angela Bassett, Connie Britton and Peter Krause.

This is a good week to tune in to see if the show is something for you. FOX is airing the pilot episode. The great news, too, is that there have only been six episodes so far. If you like the series, you’ve got the weekend to catch up easily before next Wednesday’s new episode. Yes, FOX has taken a break from regular programming for the Winter Olympics, too.

#2. The Resident on FOX

If you’re around the hour before SEAL Team’s usual block, check out The Resident on FOX. The newest medical drama has received mixed reviews from critics, viewers and medical personnel. Some say that it’s extremely realistic and others say that it definitely isn’t.

The series focuses on a group of residents, one of which is Emily VanCamp from Revenge. Watch them has they make poor decisions, struggle to save patients and fight against each other to remain on their program.

#3. The Brave on NBC

Fall 2017 saw the arrival of three new military shows. SEAL Team was CBS’ successful attempt, while NBC came around with The Brave. This series is on the line right now, but is certainly something to consider while you wait for your favorite military drama to return.

The Brave stars Mike Vogel and Anne Heche, as America’s undercover heroes. Whle the Defense Intelligence Agency works on one side, the Special Ops squad will go in and execute the missions. Season 1 is now over, so this is a good time to catch up on the episodes and let NBC know you want a second season.

#4. SIX on History Channel

The History Channel has a lot of good scripted shows that tend to go unnoticed because they’re not primetime. SIX is one of those examples. If you love SEAL Team, you will definitely want to give this series a go because it’s all about the real Navy SEAL Team 6, who had the job of eliminating the Afghanistan leader in 2014.

Inspired by real events, the series was created by Apollo 13’s William Broyles Jr. Real SEAL David Broyles offers his insights and knowledge to help make the series more realistic.

#5. Vikings on History Channel

While it’s nothing like the current military shows, you’ll want to give Vikings a chance while you wait for Boreanaz and co. to return. The title does give the premise away. It’s about the Vikings, but not just about them storming Britain and taking over. It’s actually the tale of Ragnar Lothbrok and the legacy he left behind.

While it’s currently on Season 5, it shouldn’t take too long to catch up. The first three seasons are just 10 episodes long. The fourth episode is 20 episodes and the fifth will be 20, but has only aired 10 so far. The show is on a break until about fall 2018, so plenty of time to catch up. And it’s already been renewed for a sixth season, so even more reason to catch up now.
