Hunted brought the Special Children storyline back into focus, with the introduction of another psychic. It also brought back the danger of another hunter.

Sometimes the hunters become the hunted and that’s definitely the case for the Winchesters on more than one occasion. Supernatural Season 2, Episode 10 introduced another one of Azazel’s Special Children, while putting the Winchesters’ lives at risk at the hands of another hunter.

Between Ash, Dean, Ava and Gordon, there were some excellent lines. Here’s a look at the best from the episode.

He just said that I had to save you, that nothing else mattered; and that if I couldn’t, I’d…

The idea of keeping Sam safe was nothing new for the Winchester brothers, but Dean could sense right away that this time it was different. He likely didn’t even need to know the final part of the John’s plea to know that it was different, because of the “that nothing else mattered.” Plus, by this point, Dean knew that his brother was different; was one of the Special Children.

Well, apparently, that’s my job. Make the monkey dance at the keyboard.

Ash has always had some excellent one-liners and this was no different. When Sam asks Ash for help, it takes minutes for him to come up with some answers. That is his job, apparently. It’s a shame that Ash was used for nothing more than just getting information. He could have been an excellent full-time addition to Supernatural.

I just remembered that when I was a kid I swallowed like 8 things of Pop Rocks and then drank a whole can of Coke. You don’t think that counts as a suicide attempt, do you?

This was just one of those funny moments that showed the type of upbringing Ava had. She wasn’t a great liar and found it hard to create stories. However, was it actually just her giving fans the impression that she wasn’t a good liar? Was this a good way to lead us into a false sense of security, with Azazel turning her dark all the while?

I just helped you steal some dead guy’s confidential psych files. I’m awesome!

And again for Ava, this was perfect. Despite the normal upbringing, she jumped into the world of demons and felonies. Of course, she had no idea just how big this would become at the time, but it also foreshadowed the things she could do in the future. In spite of her initial thoughts, she got a kick out of stealing confidential psych files. That could totally lead to turning on others to save her own life.

This isn’t personal. I’m not a killer, Dean. I’m a hunter. And your brother’s fair game.

Dean’s thoughts were the exact same as everyone else’s when it came to Gordon, but really he proved a point that he wasn’t actually evil. He just had a black and white view on monsters, demons and supernatural beings. To him, Sam was evil or at least a danger to society. He needed to hunt him, as he would any other creature.

This demon tells me there are soldiers to fight in this coming war. Humans, fighting on hell’s side. You believe that? I mean, they’re psychics, so they’re not exactly pure humans, but still. What kind of worthless scumbag have you got to be to turn against your own race?

It’s in this moment that Gordon’s view of psychics becomes clear. The reasons he views Sam as evil is abundant. He doesn’t completely view Sam as human. If Gordon knew everything that would happen in Seasons 4 and 5, it’s likely that he could take further steps to ensure Sam was stopped.

You shouldn’t take your shoes off around here, you could get tetnis.

This is just a funny line now because of an episode from Season 3. Gordon tells Sam off for taking his shoes off and we all know Sam loses his shoe…

Screw the job. Screw it, man, I’m sick of the job anyway. I mean, we don’t get paid, we don’t get thanked. The only thing we get’s bad luck.

Finally, Dean shares his thoughts on the subject of hunting. He continues his thoughts from the previous episode, reminding us that he really is tired of the job. With this in mind, it shouldn’t be that surprising that he was willing to make the demon deal in the end. This was just foreshadowing of sacrifices he was willing to make.
