4 reasons The CW shouldn’t move Supernatural to Sundays
The CW is adding Sundays to its lineup and, while moving Supernatural to that night could be good for The CW Sundays, the series should stay where it is.
Since the announcement The CW was adding Sundays to its primetime lineup, there have been questions about the shows that will be put on that night. Supernatural could be one of them. With its passionate fan base, the majority would likely follow from Thursdays to Sundays without issue. But why should Supernatural be the one to move yet again?
The CW needs to shift another program if it really wants positive feelings for Sundays. Here’s a look at why the network shouldn’t move Supernatural to Sundays.

It’s The Walking Dead night
Does The CW really want to pit Supernatural against The Walking Dead? Okay, granted, there are two timeslots the Winchester brothers could take. If the series stuck to the 8/7c timeslot, there is absolutely no competition with one of the biggest shows on Sunday nights. The Walking Dead airs at 9/8c.
However, if the network gets the idea of putting the Winchesters back into the original 9/8c timeslot, there will most definitely be a problem. It’s going to be hard to fight against The Walking Dead, as many fans have recently stated.
But that isn’t a reason in itself not to move nights. After all, Supernatural goes up against The Big Bang Theory and Grey’s Anatomy every Thursday (a nightmare for yours truly), so it could stand a chance against The Walking Dead. There are other reasons though.

Sundays are expected to be a slow night
The CW once had Sundays and dropped the night, because it wasn’t performing well enough. Fridays are currently known as the Death Slot, but Sundays were so bad for the teen network that the network bosses and affiliates decided to drop it.
So, it’s really not that surprising that there are fears Sundays will be a slow night again. This could be why The CW would think of moving Supernatural to Sundays. Why not bring an already passionate fan base to the potentially slow night. The Winchesters already proved they could thrive on a bad night of the week (it was on Fridays during Seasons 6 and 7!) and managed to make their way back to a better night.
However, surely the network wants to keep the ratings successful. There’s a chance that Wayward Sisters will be picked up and a lead-in from Supernatural would make sense. This isn’t as safe if the shows are on Sundays.
It’s time to stop moving the series
Supernatural was on Thursdays for the first five seasons, bar the first 16 episodes, which were on Tuesdays. After that, it moved nights every few seasons, going to Fridays, Wednesdays, Tuesdays, back to Wednesdays and then back to Thursdays. It’s even moved timeslots from the 9/8c to the 8/7c timeslot. It’s tiring trying to figure out which night to keep free for the Winchester brothers, Castiel and co.
It’s time to stick to one night and leave the series alone. Thursdays works for many (although I have to admit that Wednesdays were much better since Grey’s Anatomy and The Big Bang Theory), so maybe just leave it there.
Constantly moving nights puts a show at risk of cancellation. Viewers get fed up of following it. While Supernatural has proved that it doesn’t suffer from that, it’s really not worth the risk or hassle!
The fans don’t want it
Quite honestly, the fans just don’t want the night change. The CW is relatively good at listening to what the fans want. When there was uproar about the initial idea for the Charmed reboot, The CW went back to the drawing board. When it was clear there was no interest in the Supernatural: Bloodlines spin-off, the network decided not to even pick it up for a short first season.
Mark Pedowitz has turned the network around and helped it grow. Part of that is due to listening to the fans and look at social media to see what the fans want. This is definitely the time to do it again.
The fans are making it clear they want Supernatural to stick to Thursdays. If not Thursdays, then another mid-week night works best. There’s no need to put it on a Sunday.
