Siren season 1, episode 1 preview: New photos show a seaside mystery

Freeform’s newest fantasy drama, Siren, asks the question: “What if there were something sinister swimming beneath the sea’s surface?” Mermaids are seen as complex, villainous predators in this original series, which is set in the fictional coastal town of Bristol Cove — a place that just happens to be known for its mermaid legends and complicated mermaid-human relationships.
In the pilot, we meet a mysterious foreign girl named Ryn (Eline Powell) whose superhuman strength and lack of communication skills catch the attention of a few key residents, including a local expert on mermaids.
In the pictures released for the pilot episode, we can also see that Ryn meets Ben (Alex Roe) and his girlfriend Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola), both of whom are marine biologists at the Bristol Cove Marine Research Center.

While Maddie seems to be more skeptical of Ryn, Ben appears to gain her trust enough to examine her scaling skin and offer some help. Once Ben and Maddie figure out who Ryn really is, it will be up to them to figure out why she’s on land and if there are other mermaids like her in the waters around Bristol Cove.
Siren stars Eline Powell as Ryn, Alex Roe as Ben Pownall, Fola Evans-Akingbola as Maddie Bishop, Ian Verdun as Xander McClure, Rena Owen as Helen Hubbell and Sibo Mlambo as Donna. The series is based on a story by executive producers Eric Wald and Dean White, with Emily Whitesell as showrunner and executive producer. The series is also executive produced by Brad Luff, Nate Hopper and RD Robb.
