5 reasons all Supernatural fans need to watch The Magicians
If you’ve not started watching The Magicians yet, this is the time to do it. All Supernatural fans need to tune in—and from the very beginning!
There are so many TV shows out there that you should be watching. As a Supernatural fan, you’ll want to catch those that have a similar feel or message. Well, while The Magicians doesn’t quite have the same message of family don’t end in blood, the main characters do make major sacrifices and it is a story about the magical world.
But just why should you watch the series? Here are five reasons you need to tune in from the very beginning now.

Sera Gamble is one of the showrunners
Remember Sera Gamble from Supernatural? Well, you should. She was part of the series from the very beginning and took over the reins as showrunner from Seasons 6 to 7. Well, now she’s moved onto The Magicians and you can certainly tell. There are a lot of moments that will make you feel like you’re watching an episode of Supernatural.
And that’s not all. There are a few others behind the scenes who were part of Supernatural. Gamble mentions the series in this interview over at Hidden Remote.

Supernatural stars show up
You’ll know by now that Felicia Day is part of the cast, right? Well, she’s not the only one. Ricky Worthy is also a recurring star on the show. You’ll know him best as the Alpha Vamp, who was finally killed at the end of Season 12. However, he plays a good guy in The Magicians: he’s the Dean of Brakebills.
It’s interesting to see him play a very different character. You’ll enjoy it if you like to see actors show off their abilities.
There are different worlds
Love the jump between the Winchesters’ world and the Apocalypse World in Supernatural? Well, you’ll love The Magicians. It’s included different worlds from the very beginning. You’ll get a feeling of Narnia for some of it, but there’s also an element of SPN here and there.
Plus there’s the use of a book! In fact, lead character Quentin reads all about a world in a book and it turns out that world is real. Plus, there have been times that he’s been part of that world—characters he has read about turned out to be him. Remember that Chuck wrote about the Winchesters and things they would do before they did them.
It’s a magical world
Quite honestly, the magic and the mystical creatures will draw you in. This is a world with witches, magicians, fairies, and even Gods. Some of the creatures naturally have magic and others gain it from a magical well. It’s possible to kill creatures, but the killings will have consequences. Nothing is ever simple.
Plus, the series is about a group of 20-somethings tasked with saving the world. Think of it as the Winchesters when they were younger but if they had a group of friends to rely on.
And you can’t always trust the creatures you thing you can. Sometimes you have to make deals with devils and you have to trust your foe. There are times you have to make major sacrifices for the people you love. It’s just part of a normal magical world, right?
It mixes reality with the magic
There aren’t just magical problems that the characters face. They also need to deal with very real-life problems. That’s especially the case for Season 3, but I won’t give away spoilers as to why. You’ll get a strong sense of Supernatural, with how the Winchesters have often had to deal with the reality of the world while managing their supernatural issues and problems.
People will become involved now and then. The law isn’t always on their side. There’s a real sense of death and danger throughout the episodes.
Oh and with the reality comes the pop culture. If you love Dean’s quips and reminders of various shows and movies, you’ll love The Magicians for it. Season 3 has be the best so far, but there’s plenty of pop culture in the first two seasons.
