Planning to watch the Oscars tonight but think you might struggle to get through it? Think you need some help or motivation? Then play the official-unofficial Oscars drinking game, suitable for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinkers.

This Sunday the 90th Academy Awards ceremony will get underway. You, along with so many other people around the world, will be tuning in to watch and see who the winners of the biggest award in filmmaking will be.

An award ceremony filled with who’s who. A hugely glamorous affair and one that is full of hype, controversy, excitement and surprise. Not a year goes by that something unexpected and shocking occurs, sometimes good and sometimes bad. The one thing that can be guaranteed is how long the ceremony can be.

It doesn’t matter how unpredictable the night becomes, the Academy Awards is a long affair; sometimes too long. So we put together a little Oscars drinking game that will hopefully help you not get bored because some parts of the Oscars are just that bad you need a stiff drink.

Very quickly, it should be extremely obvious that Hidden Remote does not condone or encourage excessive drinking. This is a small game intended for to be light heartened and fun. Know your limits and if you have had enough just stop. You can always do this with soft drinks as well.

The official-unofficial Oscars drinking game

Take a sip of your dink if the following happens:

  • Someone cracks a joke about last year’s Oscars.
  • Someone cracks a joke that is bad. As in the type of bad, you only laugh at because you are being polite.
  • Someone thanks their mother/ wife/husband or another family member when receiving their award.
  • Somone thanks God.
  • Anytime La La Land gets mentioned.
  • If you have actually seen any of the movies nominated.
  • Whenever the Camera pans to the nominees.
  • The presenter pronounces the nominees name wrong.
  • When the camera pans to someone crying.

Take a large sip (mouthful/gulp) if the following happens:

  • The winner or presenter takes the opportunity to promote or raise awareness for a particular cause/movement. Drink twice if they name drop that particular/movement.
  • During the acceptance speech, the winner becomes really emotional.
  • If you have actually watched any of the nominated foreign language category movies.
  • Average run time for the Oscars is 3 hours. For every ten minutes over the three hours take a drink.
  • Whenever the camera pans to someone who was not a nominee.
  • When the camera pans to the loser and they are clapping politely but you know they are only clapping because they have to.
  • As the nominees are being read out. Announce who you predict to w If they do not win, take a large sip/gulp of your drink.

Finish your drink if the following happens:

  • As the nominees are being read out, announce who you predict to win. If they win, finish your drink.
  • The winner gets so emotional they are unable to finish their acceptance speech.
  • When it is someone’s first time winning an Oscar.
  • If the ceremony actually finishes on time or earlier.

Finish your drink, then immediately get another and finish that one, if the following happens:

  • Someone does a Steve Harvey; announces the wrong name and has to apologize profoundly, take back the Oscar and then give it the correct winner.
  • The winner of the award trips and falls as they approach the
