Was it the wrong decision when Castiel removed his trenchcoat?

Heads up. A discussion on what occurred in Supernatural Season 13, Episode 14 of Supernatural “Good Intentions” is about to occur. If you are not fully caught up and wish to remain spoiler free then you should consider hitting the back/exit button now.

Castiel may have crossed a line he cannot come back from. Extracting vital information that Donatello refused to hand over rendered the prophet brain dead and breathing on life support. Castiel proclaims that he did what he had to, but was it the right thing to do?

More from Supernatural

On the one hand, Sam and Dean now have what they need. So points on the board there. Without the information, they may never be able to open a portal to save Jack and Mary. But that is it really on the positive side.

Whereas on the other side, Castiel pretty much just murdered one of their friends and allies to get information. Donatello technically is alive thanks to a bunch of machines, but for all intents and purposes, he may as well be dead. We could actually argue that Castiel has possibly left him worse than dead. There is also the slight issues of potentially no more prophets as well, so that’s another negative in the box.

So far, it’s not looking too good for Cas.

Your viewpoint determines the outcome

Castiel played the “I had to” card and quoted being a soldier. That’s understandable, but that doesn’t necessarily make it right.

Supernatural portrayed the aftermath brilliantly. Between Castiel, Sam, and Dean, they all put forward their opinion on what just happened. And they did it just right. Because no one is really right or wrong in this situation. They shared their opinion on the matter, but that is just it; opinion.

Because it depends on your viewpoint if you think Castiel did right or wrong.

Personally, I think he did the right thing. Donatello already lost his sole. He then turned so evil that there was possibly no coming back and the clock was against them. The longer Mary and Jack are stuck in the AU, the more likely it is that they will be killed.

To me, Cas weighed up the options and decided to do a “sacrifice the few to save many” moment.

But again, that is me. That is my opinion. My viewpoint. You may think that there is no situation where Castiel doing what he did was the right decision. And that’s fine. You are not wrong, or right, either. It is just your opinion.

Castiel has crossed a line. A line that others may disapprove off, but it is a line he can come back from. He weighed up the options and did what he thought was the best decision he could do out of one huge pile of c**p decisions. It’s not like Castiel has turned evil or anything…
