Many people will go out this weekend, enjoy some green beer, and maybe sport some green in hopes of not getting pinched. The rest of us might want to cozy down and have a relaxing night at home. For those people, we have some entertaining Irish movies you can enjoy at home with a group of friends, a partner, or even by yourself.

Some of these films are not Irish made or set in the actual country of Ireland, but all of these have Irish characters, as well as influences. Here are five Irish movies that are worth watching on St. Patrick’s Day:

The Departed

#1 The Departed

While the film is not set in Ireland, Martin Scorsese’s classic makes the streets of Boston come to life. Possessing Irish accents and a killer soundtrack that kicks off with Dropkick Murphys’ anthem I’m Shipping Up to Boston, the film is the perfect movie to watch while enjoying a green beer. Kick back, relax and have a Bostonian night full of Mark Wahlberg swearing and cold-blooded mafia mayhem.

#2 Boondock Saints

Boondock Saints is such a weird little phenomenon of a movie. The film had an abysmal response from critics, but for whatever reason, this film captured a major cult following. The film centers around two Irish Catholic brothers who embark on a string of vigilante justice. The film also stars Willem Dafoe, who basically steals the show as the detective hunting them down. Despite critical opinion, the film does possess some great characters and is a good film to watch at home, especially for St. Paddy’s Day.

#3 In Bruges

Before Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri, director Martin McDonagh, made a killer debut with In Bruges. The film is a dark comedy about two Irish hitmen who head to Bruges after a hit goes horribly wrong. The movie itself is hilarious and violent, but most of all it’s one of the best films Colin Farrell has ever made. If you can’t find something to watch this Irish holiday, then definitely make it a point to check this out.

#4 Sing Street

Now for a lighthearted select. From the makers of Once–which is also an Irish-based film– Sing Street is a film about a boy who makes a band to gain favor with a girl. The film itself is inspiring in some ways, showing the magic of creating a song and how our love for music reflects ourselves. It’s a great coming of age film and one that would make for a great date night on St. Paddy’s Day.

#5 The Lobster

If you seek something a little challenging or something that has an arthouse vibe, look no further than The Lobster. The film has a very strange premise, which involves people being forced to find a soul mate within a 45 day period or face the consequence of transforming into an animal. It’s also a love story, a dystopian film, and many other things I can’t even begin to articulate. Believe me when I say there’s nothing else like this original.
