Run…Iris, Run. Iris West is now the new speedster of Central City. The latest episode of The Flash saw Team Flash’s leader step into Barry’s boots and running off to save the day. Though, it was more than Iris could handle on her own.

During last night’s episode of The Flash, a majority of it depicted Iris West assuming the Flash’s role in Central City. After the newly discovered meta, Matthew Kim, accidentally transferred Barry’s powers to Iris, she wound up filling in for him. Barry wasn’t all that excited by the idea of Iris taking his place on the team but he supported her nonetheless, because that’s what a good husband does, right?

In any case, Iris becoming the Flash didn’t work out at first. She actually wound up needing serious help after a badly planned attempt to stop a building fire went awry. Fortunately, Cisco came to the rescue and breached her out. Though, that drives the question of why Cisco and Caitlyn didn’t teleport there in the first place. They were sitting behind the console the whole time and neither of them stepped up, but that’s neither here nor there.

Back at Star Labs, an argument regarding DeVoe began to brew. Putting the Barry/Iris problem aside for a moment, Team Flash still had to figure out a way to stop DeVoe. One of the ideas being pushed by Harry was developing a Thinking Cap, similar to the one DeVoe wore on the night he was struck by Dark Matter. That way, Harry could become just as smart and outwit the Thinker. Everyone seemed to be on board with the idea, except Cisco. He felt as though Harry’s mind would become just as warped and didn’t want to take that risk. He vehemently denies Harry’s request until a dire situation involving numerous lives requires that he assists in completing the device.

With a new meta wreaking havoc in Central City, Iris/Flash had to respond to the call. When she arrives on the scene, a thermo-cyclone is raging upwards. She doesn’t know how to extinguish it and no one on the team does. Luckily, Harry and his Thinking Cap come up with a solution that gives Iris the winning edge.

In the end, she winds up washing out the fiery new meta and placing him in cuffs. At the same time, she whisks Michael Kim back to Star Labs so that he can correct the power transfer between herself and Barry. Once that’s taken care of, Team Flash convinces Kim to stay with them. In doing so, they have a new teammate who can help bring DeVoe down. And with a little help from Harry’s Thinking Cap, they’re sure to succeed.

Will Edwin Gauss be the key to locating DeVoe’s lair?

In the final segment of the episode, Harry’s device helps once more by naming the two final bus metas. Harry names them both and the one of concern is Edwin Gauss. He’s of intrigue here because of his comic origins.

In the comics, Gauss develops a suit that allows him to travel between dimensions. But seeing as how The Flash is going to tweak his origin, he’ll likely a be a meta capable of the same. If so, Gauss would likely possess the ability to travel to dimensions, perhaps even DeVoe’s pocket dimension.

There are a lot of variables to consider here but Gauss is bound to show up eventually. When he does, Team Flash is more than likely going to bring him in. That may take some time and even fill out a few episodes but the most feasible scenario is going to see Gauss become the next addition to Team Flash. After that, everything is up in the air, especially with DeVoe taking a backseat to concoct more evil plans.

The Flash returns with Season 4, Episode 17 “Null and Void” on April 10, 2018, due to a small hiatus.
