Thought that Gabriel would be the one behind Scoobynatural? Well, he’s not and the showrunner has an excellent reason why.

There have been plenty of theories about how Sam, Dean and Castiel end up in the world of Scooby-Doo. One of those popular theories is that Gabriel has a hand in it. That certainly makes sense considering Gabriel has put the Winchesters and Castiel in TV world before.

Showrunner Andrew Dabb has shared that Supernatural Season 13’s “Scoobynatural” definitely isn’t going to be Gabriel. It’s an excellent reason for that and the reason gives you an idea of the mind of the writing team.

They didn’t know they’d have Gabriel

Considering the fact that the voices for “Scoobynatural” were done last year, it shouldn’t be that surprising that Gabriel isn’t part of the overall storyline. While he will have a mention, that is likely going to be one of the Winchesters’ theories.

The truth is Gabriel’s return wasn’t even considered when the idea of the Supernatural Scooby-Doo crossover was considered and being created. None of the writers had any idea that they’d be able to use him, so they had to work with something else.

It is a shame, but it’s understandable. This just shows when the planning happens for the overall season.

"There is a reference to Gabriel [in the Scooby episode], however, given the timeline of this, Gabriel is not the cause of this specific adventure.–Andrew Dabb"

It’s an entirely different monster

There’s definitely a monster of sorts involved and this one is entirely different to Gabriel. Dabb hasn’t shared whether this is a new monster or one we’ve seen before, just that it’s a different monster in charge. It could mean a witch, a djinn, or even a real type of Trickster. After all, Gabriel was always assumed to be a Trickster, but it turned out he was an archangel. Do Tricksters really exist?

Without know much about the episode and the case—other than they will meet the Scooby Gang—it’s hard to guess what creature it will be.
