As the Winchesters search for the rest of the pieces for the rift spell, the focus will be on Asmodeus, Ketch, and our favorite archangel in Supernatural Season 13, Episode 17.

The Supernatural Season 13, Episode 17 synopsis is out and it gives us plenty of information about what to expect. Titled “The Thing,” the episode will continue Sam and Dean’s journey for missing pieces of the rift spell. Meanwhile, there is a focus on the Hell storyline, specifically involving Ketch and our favorite archangel.

Note: There will be spoilers in this if you haven’t caught up yet. There are also technically spoilers for Episode 17 based on the synopsis.

The episode will air April 5 and will be the second back from this mini-Hellatus.

Sam and Dean continue finding spell pieces

The focus for the Winchesters right now is collecting pieces of the puzzle for the rift spell. It’s not clear which piece they’re after this time, but the Men of Letters will come back into play. This time it’s a Men of Letters bunked from the 1920s.

However, while managing time travel, it looks like they’re also dealing with a God from a different dimension. Will this be our God from the alternate world? Have the Men of Letters messed up with magic and brought an entirely different God? Maybe this will somehow link to the Shedim, which hasn’t been mentioned since Asmodeus attempted to trick Jack into releasing them back in Episode 2!

Ketch makes a decision

Meanwhile, the focus is on the Hell storyline in Supernatural Season 13. We now know that Gabriel is still alive and trapped in Asmodeus’ dungeon. According to the synopsis, Ketch makes a shocking decision about our favorite archangel due to an “unruly encounter” with Asmodeus.

It doesn’t look like Ketch has told the Winchesters about Gabriel just yet. Is this because he hasn’t had the time? After all, the Winchesters are currently focused on the rift spell. Maybe Ketch is looking for the best way to help Gabriel without getting himself killed at the hands of Asmodeus.

Hopefully, the episode will give us some details of how Gabriel has ended up in Asmodeus’ dungeon. Honestly, that’s the missing piece of the puzzle we need right now.

Here’s the synopsis to get your own idea of the episode:

"Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) continue to collect the pieces necessary to open a rift to the other world in order to save their family. Their latest quest leads them to a Men of Letters bunker from the 1920s and a hungry God from another dimension. Meanwhile, Ketch (guest star David Hayden-Jones) makes a shocking decision about Gabriel (guest star Richard Speight Jr.) after an unruly encounter with Asmodeus (guest star Jeffrey Vincent Parise). John Showalter directed the episode written by Davy Perez."
