Marvel has released a new trailer for Avengers: Infinity War this weekend. We have so many questions, the biggest one being — Where’s Hawkeye?

More from Marvel Movies

An all-new trailer for Avengers: Infinity War premiered Friday and fans can’t stop talking about it! There are so many moments in the trailer that made our jaw drop, from Thor (Chris Hemsworth) shouting in agony, to Captain America (Chris Evans) arm wrestling Thanos (Josh Brolin), it’s almost too much to handle! But at the end of it, we are all left wondering: Where the heck is Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner)?

Clint Barton isn’t the only one missing in the trailer and movie promos, Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) is also nowhere to be seen. We’re really more curious about Hawkeye, though, since he’s an Avengers OG, so his exclusion is offending all his fans.

Twitter blew up with memes and even photoshopped Infinity War posters featuring Hawkeye front and center. Marvel makes no mistakes though (okay, I’m being biased), there’s a reason Jeremy Renner isn’t in the posters. There are many theories out there, but here’s the one we’re leaning towards the most from Comic Book

According to the source, the Infinity War Prelude comic book shows Clint Barton saying his goodbyes to Captain America and other Avengers, telling them all he is officially retiring to spend time with his family. This explains why we don’t see him in action, but it doesn’t explain why he’s not even mentioned in any of the promos. After all, the source shares that it’s been revealed Hawkeye will “adopt the darker new persona of Ronin in Avengers 4″ after suffering a “tragic loss.” Will this tragedy occur in Infinity War?

The theory is that Hawkeye is on a mission to find and secure the Soul Stone. Knowing that, it’s likely that someone Hawkeye loves will be hurt (or killed) while on this mission. Prepare for heartbreak all around.

What’s your take? Do you agree with this theory?

Avengers: Infinity War is in theaters Friday, April 27, with early screenings beginning Thursday, April 26.
