Timeless fans are currently hip deep in the highly anticipated new episodes. What are some other shows that can scratch a time travel itch in between episodes?

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of Timeless for quite some time. Has it disappointed in any way? No, it has not.

Let’s say, however, that you’ve already watched all of the new episodes five times now (look, we know you exist. Don’t lie) and you still want some more time travel shenanigans in your life. We’ve got you covered.

Doctor Who

Let’s get the obvious ones out of the way first. Doctor Who is the end-all, be-all of time travel tom-foolery.

Created back in the 1960’s, the British series revolves around a time-traveling alien named The Doctor who travels throughout space and time in his TARDIS, accompanied by a companion of some sort.

This was and continues to be the ultimate in time travel silliness.

Quantum Leap

This is the other obvious one. Often discussed in the annals of all-time great science-fiction along with the likes of Star Trek and Battlestar GalacticaQuantum Leap follows Scott Bakula as he jumps into a new body in a new time every episode in the hopes that he might return to his own time.

The Ministry of Time

An export from Spain to Netflix, The Ministry of Time follows a warrior from the 15th century, the first female university student from the19th century, and a nurse from the 21st century that are recruited to work for a government agency known as The Ministry of Time. The Ministry sits upon a cavern of doors that lead to a different year in Spanish history and they work as peacekeepers of the Spanish timeline.

If you think this sounds somewhat familiar to Timeless, you wouldn’t be wrong. In fact, the producers of The Ministry of Time sued the creative powers behind Timeless in 2016 on the
grounds that the NBC series ripped off the Spanish one. The suit has since been settled.

12 Monkeys

Based on the 1995 film of the same name, this SYFY series takes a broader and more traditional approach at the genre than the Bruce Willis version did. The remake takes almost as much focus into the future setting as it does to the contemporary setting, but, nonetheless, is a thoroughly engaging time travel mystery.

The Time Tunnel

The second oldest choice on this list, The Time Tunnel premiered in 1966 (Doctor Who premiered in 1963) and was essentially Sliders but with time travel. It follows two scientists that get themselves trapped in a time stream from a top-secret project and get sent to notable periods of history.

Journeyman

The premise for Journeyman was essentially: What if Sam Beckett from Quantum Leap was allowed to come home in between leaps but would be forced to leap again without warning?Contrary to a lot of time travel series that would focus on a recognizable event or person, Journeyman was much more interested in the common man that deserved a little better for themselves.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

Arguably the best current CW/DC series, Legends has wonderfully evolved from a largely ridiculous series that bungled Vandal Savage to one where its ridiculousness is the strongest asset.

It’s a show that realizes its silliness is often what makes it work and swerves into it.

Seven Days

What makes Seven Days so interesting, and one still deserving of a revisit, is how limited its world was on a mere conceptual level. The series followed an ex-Navy Seal that works for a secret government agency that uses a sphere-like device that sends him back in time seven days to prevent a certain calamity from occurring.

This is another one that realized how silly it was fairly early on and figured out how to work within that.

Continuum

If you’re looking for a time travel story that blends in conspiracy elements a la Rittenhouse, this could be the one for you. Continuum follows a detective from 2077 that follows a terrorist cell back in time to present day to catch and stop them from altering her timeline in the future.

Outlander

Romance plus time travel make excellent bedfellows.

Outlander follows an English combat nurse from 1945 who is sent back to 1743 and befriends a Scottish soldier that she heals after she arrives. From there, the story switches from her time in the 1700’s to the 1940’s.
