And let the summer of This Is Us stars taking over the big screen commence. On Tuesday, the first trailer for the young adult science fiction thriller The Darkest Minds hit the internet, and it featured a very familiar face. Mandy Moore co-stars in the upcoming flick, which seemingly kicks off the inevitable domination of the Pearsons.
From Chrissy Metz headlining her first movie to Sterling K. Brown popping up in huge franchises, the stars of This Is Us are getting the spotlight they deserve. Mandy Moore returns to the big screen after last summer’s surprise hit 47 Meters Down and, not to mention, racking up a collection of classics in her teens. This times, she’s changing the pace with The Darkest Minds.

Based on the novel of the same name by Alexandra Bracken, The Darkest Minds centers on a group of teenagers who mysteriously generate powerful abilities and become targets of the government. Ruby (Amandla Stenberg, who you remember from The Hunger Games and Everywhere Everywhere) escapes detainment and joins fellow runaways. However, these dangerous teens realize they must revolt.
Mandy Moore plays the role of Cate, a doctor who also supports the fight against the repressive government. Although Moore’s character isn’t the lead, it sounds like it could be crucial to the story, which fans of the book will be able to confirm or deny. At any rate, The Darkest Minds marks yet another rebirth for the actress as she hasn’t gone the sci-fi route. But, hey. We’re totally here for Mandy taking on these bold roles. Next stop: Superhero!
