Is Tom Holland here to stay as the next Spider-Man?
By Ryan Mekkes
With so many Spider-Men taking the screen over the last several years, is it likely that Tom Holland will be a somewhat permanent fixture? Or will he decide to leave when his contract expires?
It all started with Tobey Maguire, who had a trilogy spanning from 2002 to 2007. After that, it was Andrew Garfield, who had two movies in 2012 and 2014.
And now it looks like Tom Holland, who starred in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017, is the next spider to take the helm. But will it last this time?

What I’m trying to say is, it’s a little weird that we’ve had three Spider-Men in such a short time-span. At least for me, it’s a little strange to associate the role with three different actors.
This could, however, be the start of a more permanent spidey situation, as Tom Holland is young enough to carry the franchise for many years to come. This would honestly be an ideal situation for the franchise, as it would allow the character to truly have a homecoming. (See what I did there?)
According to Slashfilm, the contract Tom Holland signed was for three solo films, which we’re one into now. So this could be another Tobey Maguire situation unless they re-up after his time expires. But right now, there’s really no way of knowing what will happen.

There is also a stigma in the acting community when it comes to getting attached to certain roles — especially superhero roles. Actors generally don’t like one character to define them. So the honest truth is after Tom Holland has had his moment flying through the streets, he very well may follow a similar path away from Spider-Man; and of course, he has every right to do for his career’s sakes (even if it’s a bummer for us).
For now, though, it seems like he’s our guy. So get used to seeing him for a little while, at least. But don’t get comfortable just yet; we might be having this same conversation in a few years about a different actor.
