Life Sentence is getting moved to the Friday night death slot after just four episodes. Should we prepare for it to be canceled?

Life Sentence, the new series starring Lucy Hale, is getting moved to Friday nights. The CW announced on March 30 that it was shaking up its planned schedule, bringing The Originals back from the Friday night death slot into Life Sentence‘s current slot.

Honestly, this news isn’t that surprising. As much as I do enjoy Hale’s new series, it’s not one that I feel compelled to watch live. If I had to rank all the Wednesday night shows that I do like to watch, it would be somewhere near the bottom, way behind the likes of SEAL Team9-1-1, and The Magicians.

But is this a serious sign that Life Sentence is going to be canceled?

More from CW

It would certainly seem so. The ratings just haven’t been great, even for The CW’s standards. They constantly come in below last season’s Frequency and this season’s Valor. It’s currently sitting around the viewing figures for Dynasty‘s revival attempts and hopes aren’t high for that.

With stronger performers and a lot of potential pilots next season, The CW will likely pull Life Sentence once this season is over. Considering it’s the spring, the network will at least likely allow the series to run its full course, but don’t expect a Season 2 pickup.

What about The Originals?

What does the news mean for The Originals? Well, all it means is that The CW has more faith in the series based on the Mikaelson family. This show is definitely ending with the fifth season. However, there is a little more potential for the planned spin-off (although I’m not sure there really needs to be another spin-off in this universe).

This news also puts the Jane the Virgin Season 4 finale back in its 9/8c timeslot. There’s no need to move it forward an hour for the sake of The Originals Season 5 premiere anymore.
