Supernatural Season 2, Episode 16 recap: Sam and Dean help a ghost
Up to this point in Supernatural, ghosts had been viewed as dangerous entities. In Season 2, Episode 16, things changed.
Supernatural Season 2, Episode 16 introduced the idea that ghosts weren’t all dangerous. Sometimes they’re stuck in a loop that they need to get out of. If you watch The Magicians, you’ll know that ghost loops are extremely common.
“Roadkill” guest starred Lucifer‘s Tricia Helfer in an exciting episode that had you guessing to the very end. Suddenly the pieces fit together but would leave you sad for a ghost forever.

Running into the case
One night, Molly and her husband David are driving down a highway when they see a man standing in the middle of the road. They swerve, crashing at the side of the road. When Molly wakes up, David is gone and she goes in search for him. She comes across the man the spouses had nearly hit and he chases her through the woods.
When she reaches the road, she comes across the Winchesters, who help her find her wrecked car. By the time they get to the car’s location, everything is gone. The Winchesters decide to take her to the police station, but as they drive they find a man in the middle of the road. Dean drives straight at him, but he disappears.
The man isn’t a man at all. he’s a ghost that was killed 15 years ago and called Jonah Greely. He now haunts the road on the anniversary of his death and they need to find his bones to salt and burn them.

The truth revealed
When the Winchesters and Molly get to the cabin, Jonah attempts to grab Molly. Dean is able to get rid of the spirit, allowing Molly and Sam to find a photo album and letters between Jonah and his wife. While searching the house, Dean finds Jonah’s wife’s bones still handing form the rafters in a hidden room. She’d killed herself out of grief.
It doesn’t take too long for Sam to figure out Jonah is buried on the property. A tree marks his grave, so they find one that is about 15 years old. When they get rid of the body, they’re able to take Molly back to her husband.
David is alive and remarried. Molly actually died 15 years ago in the car accident but hasn’t been able to accept it. Every year on the night of her death, she and Jonah haunt the spots they died and go around in a circle. Now that she’s come to terms with her death, she’s able to move on.
