Why Supernatural shouldn’t do another animated crossover

While Scoobynatural was a huge success, Supernatural should stay away from another animated crossover.

“Scoobynatural” is still being talked about this week, despite a new episode of Supernatural on Thursday and the Season 14 confirmation. That’s how much of a success the animated spin-off was. However, this success isn’t a sign that the show should opt for another animated crossover.

While we’ve looked at ideas for crossovers, these have all just been more in jest or just for fun. The truth is that nothing would ever work as well as Scooby-Doo.

More from Supernatural

The Winchesters have always used Scooby-Doo references. Wayward Winchester on YouTube put together all the clips, with episodes from way back in Season 1 to this season. Whether one of the characters has been nicknamed a Scooby-Doo character or a van has been named the Mystery Machine, there’s always been something of the Scooby Gang thrown in.

These mentions have always worked! As Dean says, Scooby and the Gang were always around when he was growing up.

Another animated crossover wouldn’t work as well. Yes, there have been other pop culture references, but nothing quite on the scale as Scooby-Doo. Sure, Supernatural has done fake crossovers with other shows and movies (*cough* Twilight *cough*), but nothing quite the same as the recent crossover.

Plus, doing another animated crossover the way “Scoobynatural” worked would take away that special feeling from last week’s episode. This was highly anticipated because the show had never done something like this. The Winchesters had ended up in TV world before, but this was the first time it wasn’t a parody of another show. Scooby and the Gang were voiced by the real actors; they were the real characters.

If Supernatural tried it again, it wouldn’t have the same following. It’s best just to keep this episode special for the years to come.
