5 reasons The CW needs to renew Life Sentence
Life Sentence is The CW show everyone is worried about and it’s one that just has to be renewed.
When The CW announced its renewals earlier this week, Life Sentence was missing. This came off the back of it being moved from Wednesday nights to Friday nights, suggesting that it would be canceled. Fans have quickly taken to social media to request that The CW renews the freshman series.
It’s one of those that may have a small live following, but it has a loud social media fandom. Fans from around the world have enjoyed the storytelling and focus on positivity. Here are five reasons The CW needs to renew Life Sentence.
1. It’s Lucy Hale!
More from CW
- The CW’s culture of pulling shows continues as Everyone Else Burns and Run the Burbs are removed from the schedule
- All American: Homecoming season 3 release updates, strike delay, and more
- The CW is out of the superhero business with Superman and Lois canceled
- The Spencer Sisters filming locations: Where is the CW drama filmed?
- The Librarians: The Next Chapter release updates and everything we know so far
If we just need one reason, then Lucy Hale would be it. She’s a talented actress with so many more stories to tell through her character Stella. This is a woman who can do just about any storyline and style. We just have to look at Pretty Little Liars for that.
Hale fans instantly flocked to her new series. She helped to pull in some who hadn’t really watched The CW since the likes of Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill ended. The CW should think about that before canceling.

2. It’s a story about positivity
There are so many TV shows that focus on the negatives. Supernatural may scored a 14th season renewal, but the storylines can be dark and depressing. Then there’s the Arrowverse that is constantly focusing on some type of drama and evil.
Life Sentence does something different. It focuses on positivity despite everything going against you. Hale’s character Stella may not have a degree (she doesn’t even have a legally acquired high school diploma) but she’s never been overly depressive about things. There’s a focus on positivity when everything goes wrong.
3. There are real relationships
This isn’t just about meeting someone and falling in love with them for the rest of their lives. Life Sentence has introduced drama and mystery. The characters all have their problems, whether it’s lying to each other, their work issues, or the reminder that they’ve put their lives on hold for one person.
Relationships break down and build back up again. The series hasn’t been afraid to show the truth for everyone involved.
4. Different, realistic personalities
The characters are (mostly) three-dimensional. Okay, there are some (Lizzy and Poppy for example) that we need to learn more about, but the majority of them have been fully developed. This isn’t a story that has been put together haphazardly. It’s developed for the audience.
Having realistic personalities is essential for a good show. There is someone for everyone to connect to, whether it’s Stella’s bright and optimistic personality, Aiden’s need to not take responsibility, or even Peter’s pessimistic nature.
5. It’s lighthearted despite the subject matter
A show about someone who has fought cancer should be depressive, but that’s not what this show is. Remember, it’s all about optimism and positivity. Stella doesn’t let anything get her down.
Despite the subject of cancer, it’s lighthearted and a fun way to spend your Wednesday (soon to become Friday) night. This is a way to feel like you can forget everything that’s going on and just remember that good things can happen. We need more of this in our lives.
