A new press release indicates that the newest episode of The Goldbergs is inspired by the executive producer’s mother, who loved dancing. Due to this, tomorrow’s episode of The Goldberg’s will pay tribute to Flashdance for the upcoming 35th anniversary of the film’s release!

More from ABC

One of the best aspects of The Goldbergs is the show’s strong parallel to real-life moments for the characters it is based on. This week’s episode is no different with the upcoming episode titled “Flashy Little Flash Dancer”, which is inspired by Executive Producer Adam F. Goldberg’s mother.

According to a press release, Adam Goldberg’s mom wanted to be a dancer when she was younger. “I even have old 8mm footage of her in dance class. Unfortunately, she never made it as a professional dancer – but it didn’t stop her from cutting a rug whenever the opportunity presented itself or watching the classic 80s dance movies like Flashdance over and over. Whenever my mom would dance, we would all laugh hysterically because she is all skill and little talent. I just had to have Wendi try and do a Flashdance number in this episode like my mother would do. It was such a blast when we shot it, especially because Wendi is a gifted dancer in real life.”

Singer Irene Cara– who sang the Academy Award winning song “Flashdance… What a Feeling,” expresses her excitement for the episode by saying, “I’m a huge fan of the show, I’m really looking forward to seeing this Flashdance moment recreated on The Goldbergs. I’m sure it will be hilariously funny.”

This suits the show’s style with past episodes that provided insight into Adam Goldberg’s inspired road to entertainment. A few weeks back we saw Adam touch on the beginnings of his film career with “Adam Spielberg,” where he tried to make his own Indiana Jones movie. Now, we are seeing how another film connected Adam and his mother.

Flashdance was a surprise 80s hit back in the day and has become iconic through film and television since. It was the first film that brought together a powerhouse team with Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, who would later make countless blockbusters in the 90s including Armageddon. The press release also highlights Bruckheimer’s fondness of Flashdance’s legacy carrying on into The Goldbergs with him saying, “Good to know the film still inspires 35 years later!”
