Rowena came back into play in Supernatural, while Castiel went to Heaven for help to find Gabriel. Where can everyone go after this week?

Supernatural wasted no time jumping into the Rowena problem in Season 13, Episode 19, titled “Funeralia.” As the Winchesters turn to her for help, she has her own plan at play and it involves reapers. Sure enough, she’s killing people before their time and that means killing reapers too. Just like saving people from their Titanic deaths, killing people before their time causes massive problems. The only way to solve these problems is through mass plagues, disasters, you know the stuff. So Death wants to stop the issue before it becomes an epidemic.

Meanwhile, Castiel needs to find Gabriel and he’s going to Heaven for help. While there he meets a surprisingly familiar face and learns the truth about the dying angels.

More from Supernatural

I’ll do this in two parts with the Heaven story and Rowena/the Winchester.

Let’s start with Heaven. When Castiel goes to Heaven for help against Apocalypse Michael, he sees flickering lights. Duma offers help against Michael in return for Gabriel being returned to Heaven. When Castiel can’t meet his expectations, Duma calls in someone higher up: Naomi.

A drill to the head was never going to kill her. As much as Castiel hates her, he listens to everything she has to say. Heaven is dying as the number of angels depletes. There are only nine in Heaven and 2-3 on Earth. They need an archangel back to power the place.

Nobody’s mentions where Lucifer is, by the way. Honestly, it feels like something is missing between the last episode and this one. There was no indication this was happening on Supernatural last week.

Anyway, without Heaven, all the souls will go to Earth. They can’t have that.

Rowena wants someone special back

As for Rowena, she is disrupting the natural order of things to get Death’s attention. Reaper Jessica turns to the Winchester’s first for help, since Death as a “hands-off” policy.

It turns out Rowena just wanted her family back. She wants Crowley back. After everything, she’s lonely and was causing problems to get Death’s attention. The only reason Billie turned up was to stop Rowena from killing Sam. It turns out in every one of Rowena’s books on Death’s shelves, Sam is the one to kill her permanently (because we have to put permanently when it comes to death in Supernatural).

With Billie around, Rowena threatens Sam’s life in return for Crowley back. However, Billie isn’t budging, not that she could bring a demon back anyway. As Rowena threw a toddler tantrum, with the classic line “it’s not fair,” Billie made it clear that life isn’t fair. Crowley isn’t coming back.

Once Rowena gave up, the Winchesters explain about Lucifer’s return and the pending apocalypse. Rowena joins Team Free Will 2.0 and it’s back to getting Jack back.
