MCU fans prepare your hearts — Iron Man is a goner in Avengers: Infinity War

In all the anticipation for The Avengers: Infinity War, there have been some unsettling rumors about characters who might bite the dust come April 27. And the character who seems to be the most likely is Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man.

I’m writing this to forewarn all of you that I have already begun the lengthy and painstaking mental preparation to lose him (don’t judge me), and I think you should, too. Here’s why — when there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.

Either we’ve taken the bait, or the scary truth is, he’s as good as gone.  Personally, I am 98% convinced that Avengers: Infinity War is Robert Downey Jr.’s last appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Iron Man — which rounds up to 100%. And I won’t say anything other than this: It’s hard to keep something of that magnitude a secret.

I have to say, killing him would be a huge mistake. Whether they admit it or not, RDJ is the face of the franchise, and you can’t just replace the face of a franchise. These things take time, and fans have gotten used to seeing him as that character.

I’m saying — don’t do it, MCU!! There’s still time to undo this horrible decision if, in fact, it’s true! Why would they do something that causes the whole franchise to limp ahead for the foreseeable future?

And who knows how much credit he actually deserves for the success of the movies as a whole? He did, after all, start it all with Iron Man in 2008.

I’m in denial, I know. And yes, I’ll admit it, I’m a diehard fan of Downey’s. But then again, who isn’t? At least now have Black Panther. That will be our comfort if this comes to pass.

Don’t do this MCU, please, just don’t!
