Spaceballs 2: The Schwartz Awakens title teased by Mel Brooks?
By Tony Smejek
Spaceballs news dropped twice in one day. Rick Moranis’ voice will be on The Goldbergs, while Mel Brooks made an appearance with “The Schwartz Awakens” title teased in the background?
Spaceballs fans are anticipating a satirical sequel. The Star Wars franchise has been booming, so would it not make perfect sense for funnyman Mel Brooks to jump on the franchise bandwagon? Wouldn’t it be great to, yet again, spoof Lucasfilm’s pride and joy of a galaxy far, far away?
Today, we’ve learned via ScreenCrush that Rick Moranis will be making his return, voicing Dark Helmet on ABC’s The Goldbergs.

The show creator Adam F. Goldberg’s goal in life is to see a Spaceballs 2 movie. He seems to want it so bad that he decided to feature a humorous dream sequence on the ABC show. Adam Goldberg, played by Sean Giambrone, will encounter Dark Helmet taking on The Schwartz.
In addition, there was an event put together by Mel Brooks yesterday bringing together costumed Spaceballs fans in their attire, according to Screamers Retro Flashbacks’ site. A couple of Dark Helmets, a mog, and some crew members were invited to join “A Hilarious Live Conversation With Mel Brooks” at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center to see a screening of Spaceballs.
“The Schwartz Awakens” appeared underneath the main title. President Skroob is also seen pointing a finger upwards. The same information was on the NJPAC’s site.
Speaking of which, last year Mel Brooks attended an event at NJPAC featuring a screening of Young Frankenstein where he said that “MGM is slightly interested” in a Spaceballs sequel, according to Split Sider.
