Can The Good Doctor be rivaled? CBS seems to think so
By Callum Gunn
When The Good Doctor returns with season 2 it will surely dominate the ratings again, right? Well CBS seems to think otherwise.
The Good Doctor dominated Monday night TV from the moment it premiered. It’s sure to do the same thing again when it returns in season 2. Apart from CBS thinks otherwise. The team behind scheduling seems to believe that Bull can go up against the hit medical drama.
CBS announced its fall TV schedule today. Returning CBS favorites such as The Big Bang Theory and NCIS remained in their usual timeslot but there was some shuffle of the TV schedule notably on Monday night. The biggest shocker being Bull slotted in at the 10/9c time slot.

CBS obviously thinks the comedy crime drama, starring Michael Weatherly, can compete against ABC’s The Good Doctor. But can it? Can The Good Doctor really be rivaled?
The Good Doctor vs Bull
In terms of ratings, Bull doesn’t do half bad. Ratings are still coming in for the season finale due to the DVR figures but throughout season 2 it routinely went over the 14 million viewer mark with it’s lowest being 12.87 million viewers, and that was around the Thanksgiving holiday.

When you take a look at The Good Doctor ratings, it pulled in just short of 20 million viewers with its premiere episode once DVR had been taking into account. Viewers declined after that but the lowest it ever went down to was 14.66 million. It routinely hit between 15-16 million viewers.
So already it is not looking like Bull will be able to compete. Throw in the factor that CBS needs to hope that viewers will happily move over from their normal Tuesday night 9/8c slot to Monday night at 10/9c. If they don’t CBS better pray that people remember to DVR or this could be a disastrous decision for CBS and, more importantly, Bull.
Sorry CBS, it’s a nice try, but I don’t think you are going to be able to steal some of The Good Doctors thunder.
