Since Designated Survivor was canceled, can we have a Hannah Wells 24-style return please?

Ok, it’s a long shot. But as A.V. Club put it, Designated Survivor has been trying to be two shows at once — a political drama and an action thriller.

But can I just throw out the suggestion that, if Designated Survivor does indeed bite the dust, we have a Hannah Wells return in the form of what the TV show 24 starring Kiefer Sutherland used to be? She’s been our Jack Bauer, or Jill, or Hannah for a long time anyways. I would love it if there were a spin-off with her in the leading role.

Maggie Q does such a great job playing the rebellious, strong, gutsy agent. And she’s more than proven that she’s completely at home in the role of Hannah Wells. So now, it should be her turn in the spotlight.

Right now, Designated Survivor splits screen time arguably 60/40 with the political scenes and the thriller scenes, respectively. So even if Wells never got her own show, I think that should at least be switched should it be resurrected by Netflix or another platform, as chatter suggests is possible.

Basically, it’s time for a change. And focusing on Hannah Wells is a great place to start. Don’t get me wrong, the political aspect of the show really can be entertaining. But the show is at it’s best when Wells is working on some sort of mission, assignment, or personal vendetta.

Right now, Designated Survivor is in the waiting game. Brooklyn 99 was saved from Fox’s cancelation by NBC after an extremely vocal and supportive fanbase made it clear they wanted more of the show.

Could the same thing be in order for Designated Survivor? And if so, will it look the same on a new network? What do you think? Should Hannah Wells be more of a focal point for the show, or should she get her own series?
