Before Deadpool 2 premiered, fans thought they had a good grasp on what the plot was about. But, as it turns out, more than a few surprises caught us off guard. Luckily, these were well received by audiences.

Everyone sort of anticipated Deadpool 2 would twist some of our prior expectations, but no one could have predicted what unfolded in what I’d call one of the best follow-ups in the X-Men Cinematic Universe. That’s not to say any of the sequels were flops, but Deadpool 2 stands to outrank them by a lot. It might even be perceived to be one of the best X-Men films to date, of course, that’s up for debate.

All things considered, Deadpool 2 brought the laughs, the action, the heart, everything one could want from a Deadpool movie. Although, some of the reveals in the film have fans curious as to how they came to be. Most are fun but a few deserve to be analyzed. In lieu of that, here is a breakdown of all the biggest shockers in Deadpool 2.

Deadpool Dies, for good!

Towards the end of the film, Wade makes a risky play to convince Russell not to kill anyone. His plan doesn’t work and Cable tries to shoot Russell. Wade jumps in front of the bullet, taking it in the heart. This wouldn’t be all that important but Wade was wearing an inhibitor collar, nullifying his healing factor. He could’ve easily taken it off and healed himself but Wade laid on the ground, giving his friends a final farewell. They all try to talk him out of it but Wade is set on reuniting with Vanessa whose been dead for the majority of the movie.

Once Wade finally passes away, his spirit travels into the afterlife where he meets Vanessa. The two seem content with their reunion but Vanessa tells Wade that it isn’t his time. He’s then pulled back by Cable who uses his last time-travel charge to save him. The result leaves Cable stranded but he’s content in the present day as a member of the new X-Force.

The Juggernaut

By far, out of all the surprises Deadpool 2 had in store, the Juggernaut reveal was the best. It was perfectly placed and unfolded in the most hilarious of ways. Although, partnering with Fire Fist was an odd way to go. The team-up made sense in the grand scheme of things but an instant partnership went against the personality established for Russell in the beginning. That being said, the Juggernaut was likely used as an action piece more than a role in the plot.

What’s more interesting is that the Juggernaut was played by Ryan Reynolds. No, Ryan Reynolds did not don the Juggernaut suit, he simply provided the voiceover for the CGI-character. Rhett Reese revealed that Reynolds’ voice was recorded then adjusted with a modulator to give him the unique sound of Juggernaut’s voice. We don’t know if the Juggernaut will be back but he’s definitely not dead.

X-Force is demolished, mostly

We probably should’ve seen it coming when the trailers practically revealed the entire X-Force team that something bad was going to happen. But no one, and I mean no one, saw the grim fate that befell them coming.

To quickly recap, once all the members of X-Force are acquainted and ready to jump from their helicopter, they learn there’s a wind advisory in effect. Domino voices her concern but Deadpool is confident that a little wind won’t change anything. What he wasn’t counting on was the wind carrying his entire team into a whirlwind of accidents that rivalled the crazy situations seen in Final Destination.

Let’s break it down. Bedlam gets hit by a bus, yes, a bus. Shatterstar is blended by helicopter blades. Vanisher gets tangled in power lines and electrocuted. Vanisher, by the way, was played by Brad Pitt. Zeitgeist managed to fly into a wood shredder and then almost got freed by Peter. Unfortunately, Zeitgeist is pulled further into the machine and he spews up his corrosive liquid. Peter is covered by it and falls dead an instant later. Zeitgeist is then pulled entirely into the machine.

The only member of X-Force whose left at the end is Domino, who only survives because her abilities to manipulate luck. It’s possible she influenced the deaths that befell the rest of her team because the parameters of her powers are unclear but there’d be no way to prove it. The good news is that a new team assembled before the end of the film. Let’s just hope they don’t wind up like the old one.

Colossus electrocutes Juggernaut in the worst way possible

In the final act of the film, Wade Wilson convinces Colossus that fights sometimes call for heroes to fight dirty. Colossus is obviously against any foul play but he agrees to fight by Wade’s rules to save the life of someone innocent.

When they get to the fight, Colossus still uses his peaceful tactics to try to stop Juggernaut but when that doesn’t work, he and the rest of the X-Men do whatever they can to slow Juggernaut down. Yukio ties his legs together and Negasonic does what she does best, explode.

At some point during the tussle, the covering over Juggernaut’s butt is ripped open. Colossus sees the opportunity and sticks a live electrical wire directly into him, leaving Juggernaut in a perpetual loop of shocks. The Juggernaut is then tossed into a pool of water, completely subdued.

Juggernaut rips Deadpool in half

Despite being unprovoked, Juggernaut’s first reaction to Deadpool is to rip him in half. Deadpool can obviously recover from this setback but it’s gruesome nonetheless. What followed, however, was arguably the funniest depiction of Deadpool regenerating his lower half.

To sum it up really quick, Wade sits on Blind Al’s couch with nothing but a shirt on. From the torso up, he looks alright, but from the waist down, he’s still underdeveloped. With his legs barely growing back, they look like a child’s legs. Everyone acknowledges how strange it is right off the bat, though the strange factor reaches its peak when Wade stands up to shake Cable’s hand.

The thing no one paid any attention to was that the bottom portion of Wade’s body was discarded. There’s no telling what happened to the remains and it could potentially regenerate a top half. Since it’s a part of Wade’s body like anything else, the bottom portion should be able to regenerate identically. In turn, this would create two Wade Wilsons. A second Wade Wilson would’ve made for a better twist after the original sacrificed himself to save Russell.

Consider it. Wade is gone and everyone has accepted his death, then another Wade shows up in a taxi. The weight of Wade’s death would still be intact and the team would be able to joyfully reunite without using something as stale as time-travel to get around his death. But, that’s not how things played out.

Deadpool 2 is currently in theaters everywhere. X-Force is TBA.
